Are you sure it was gnawed in half or did you pull on the wire somehow without realizing it? In any case, I would splice/solder/shrink two wires in between in situ.

Aryan,
If you look at the pictures you can see that a mouse made a nest in there. I cannot get the wires to extend enough to get any splicing done. Do you know where it runs from?

This might help a little.
Its one big harness. E represents the fuel sender unit connection.
You will need to trace the wires physically, figure out how best to extract them, and solder splice.
The connector itself can be removed if needed to get the wires out.

Am a little unclear about the first picture with the nest.
Is that inside the car?
If so, then I'd also spend some quality time getting to know the inside of the console area and would also remove carpets and panels to expose and inspect fuse panel and also look into the HVAC unit under the hood. I've brought home a pair of massachusetts cars. You have a different breed of extremely focused, diligent and assertive varmits in the NE region, possibly with union ties, that relentlessly attack the same areas of the vehicle over and over.

The mess was what I vacuumed out of top if the sender unit. The photo is of the mess in the vacuum cleaner. I have looked else where and do not see any other mess. The car is a mostly DD so I don't know when they had time to settle in.

So, I just looked at the 84 in the basement that I'm preparing for paint.

The fuel sender harness emerges into the cockpit and joins the rest of the harness, under the carpet, only about 8 inches from the edge of the big access hole in your picture. So, if your later car is similar, access for soldering will not be bad at all. Just be safe. I use a torch and solder-in the metal crimp lugs, like what is inside the butt splice crimp connectors, but with no plastic shield. You can buy them like that at Lowes or HD I think.

Others use a solder gun and just solder the wires together, either way works, I don't like torch around tanks.

Thanks again. I will look for it tonight. Is it towards the front of the car, by the rear seat back where those wires come back into the cockpit? A picture would be great.

Last night I looked at the rear for the wiring harness going from the interior to under the car. As you can see from the picture the harness goes under the car a little right to the access hole, but the wire underneath is comming from a little left of the access hole.
So the questions I have are:
1. Is that portion of the wiring harness only feeding the sender or are there additional wires in it?
2. Why is the wire not comming directly from where it goes to under the car?
3. Are there any clips under the car that are holding the wiring harness?
4. Can I just pull the wires iut or will I break something else?
I would appreciate any insight from anybody who has done this before.

Thank you for the picture. It seems that I should be able to pull the fuel sender wire and get some slack to get it connected back.
