Default differences in hubs??

Hi

I've tried search as i know i've seen a thread with this info in it... what do i have to do with the hubs as i am putting a 91 suspension on a 1984 car....both euro's... i'm thinking about the abs sensors...( i was going to say ring but Randy would probably start on me again)

My experience with converting MY '85 to S4 suspension is the S4 hub is larger in height and will not work with the '85 spindle.
I of course used everything to convert so the hubs were not a issue.

I do not have ABS on MY '85 and using the S4 hubs with the ring was not a problem.

Hi Greg

I have all the 91 suspension to put on so spindles are no problem, the question is ,i suppose, the hubs have a different number of abs 'serrations' on them,( i think???) can i put the 84 hub on the 91 spindle or do i have to do something with the 'serrations' from the 91??

You need the hub and upper and lower a arms. They will all bolt right in.

Geoff

If I am following this corectly you do not want to, or have ABS on the car now.

If so you will need to use the '91 hub with '91 suspension as the '84 hub will not fit.
The serrations on the hub will be fine and will not do anything as they are not in use and there is no issue with clearance.

The '84 hub will not fit on the '91 suspension as the two hubs are different in height.

I am not aware of pre '86.5 having ABS so I did not think that the '84 hubs have the serrations.

My 85 has no ABS so I haven't really looked at the system, but you can convert the front to the later tooth count. could you also conver the rear to the later count then I would think your ABS wouldn't know any different.

Euros from 84 onwards all had ABS. The number of teeth on the ring changed for MY85 IIRC (can look this up tomorrow). So if you do a complete swap of MY91 front hub parts you will also need to change the ABS ECU and the rear hubs as well.

could you run a pair of these with the new sensors to modulate the pulse frequency to match the originals?

UK cars had ABS as standard earlier than other ROW markets.

Just take your hub, and the S4 hub, and modify the ring to fit on the newer hub.

Or you can just put the later CV joints in the back of the car.

So long as the tooth count is the same front and rear you should be OK.

Thanks to everybody for their thaughts!!

John... i have all the components to do the rears as well, as i am doing a auto to manual swap... is it just 'plug and play' with the ecu??? and do i have to use later sensors or are they all the same (sensors wer'nt included in the suspension when i got it) but ive obviously got the ones on the car??

Thanks

Geoff

Geoff,

Sensors all send the same signal.
Use the original 84 brain, it is programmed to work with the wiring on the pump and in the car (different pin outs iirc for later cars). But if all 4 corners have the same number of teeth, then it "should" work fine as it is reading the same pulses at all 4 corners.
