P.S. The clock face is not lazered through, just the painted surface which ends up on the outside. The paint is lazered just down to the plastic surface so the clear plastic is exposed. JF

On the lower trim piece, I still have the nearly finished form to make some of those that are not intened to be part of the FLUSH Console conversion. That trim piece will not end up with the upper trim that the 78 and 79 cars have and maybe others. But, it can be finished to incorporate the round clock either by forming it in or cutting it in later, depending on how the clock is developed and or mounted. I'll post a picture of that form in a few days when I can get up and dpwn the stairs and out to the shop. My Knee was repaired early this morning with a Scope, so I have some healing to do.

I hate it when something that I have posted about a subject sometimes seems to be a kind of exclamation point and becomes a sort of thread-ending post. I hope that is not happening here!!!

Sweet, When I look back at your first post in this thread it seems to me that what I have had to suggest about your ideas is right in line with your interest, except for the wrist watch aspect of it. Otherwise, the approach I would take would incorporate just about everything you seem to have had in mind, including the incorporation of my little logo on the face of the dial much like on the rectangular dial I have designed and fabricated for my project. I think that if I design the dial it will be on there.

I had given a little thought about submitting my other clock face design considerations to the forum for ideas and concurrences, but then decided not to since I am not very good at either delegating or at committee-type work. I don't think I have ever submitted one of my decisions to a vote of any sort.

I have an early round VDO clock that I think was from a 928, and it is similar to yours shown in this thread, but I think it is earlier. If we decide to go any further with this project/thread, I'll post some pictures and describe some of my ideas further.

When you suggested in the first post that you would donate your clock for measurements and such I had the idea that you were perhaps "fishing" for someone else to take the lead on this in some way. If that is wrong, I'll be happy to bow out, but still give you some feedback along your way. If not, I'll spend a little of my current down-time, while I can't get out to the shop, and try to figure out how to make your project work.

What do you think?

I've thought for years, that a clock is old-school and with almost all stereos displaying time these days, a waste of very limited space.

I have thought for a long time the the 928 is very "Old School," but that there must be hundreds of ways to keep them that way yet upgrade them to modern and better components. I think that is what Sweet928 and I have in mind.

Funny you should say that Jerry -- to me, since my family physician first drove his white '77 in South Africa, while i was in love with my dad's '70's targa 911T, I have always thought of the 928 as a VERY modern-looking car. Of course this is all in the eye of the beholder.

IMHO, if you took a stock GTS today, brand new, and simply installed modern technologies into it, you would have a car that rivals - if not exceeds - the modernity of today's brand new cars.

flush windows and better rubber seals
lose the trim
better materials in seats, dash, carpets etc
better connectors all-round
improved fuse box and wiring
modern lights
electronics and creature comforts such as nav; audio; 3G etc
active suspension
more intelligent engine management and braking as well as transmission

I guess those all fit well within the "hundreds" that I suggested.

Have you guys looked into newer model Maseratis? They have STUNNING analog clocks, that IMHO might look just as good in a 928. Oval-shaped IIRC.

Why don't you find and look at my older thread about HOW TO make a trim piece or something to that effect. There was a bunch of stuff in there about the eliptical shaped clocks that I found, but one of the things that kind of put an end or new direction to that project was the total lack of interest in anything that shape, and in fact some down right dislike for it. Search HOW TO and you will find it.

Hey Jerry, I love what you have planned for the rectangular clock. I hope it makes it back up to the top of your todo list. That would be a tasteful upgrade from my digital clock.

Thanks, Murray. I have some hopes for that project also. Let's see how it goes with the liners and a couple others, then maybe so.
