Default Will I need spacers?

Hi,
I just bought some used cup wheels for my 82 S. The rears are 8" wide. Do I need spacers for them, and if so what size? I currently have 7" wide rims. The rims are 16" tall and the rears will have 50 series tires.

Thanks,
Joe

It all depends on the offset of your new wheels, with a high offset you might need spacers on the rear, but i doubt you will need them on the front as the 928 needs very high offset at the front (around 60)

Cheers

Tell us what offset, widths and diameters the fronts and rears are, and what size and brand tyres you'll have on them .... example ..... 16" x 7" ET 65 with 225/50ZR16 'BRAND' would be a standard early front combination. I'm assuming that's probably what you have (standard disc wheels) front and rear now?

Measuring what clearance you have now will also be valuable additional information to determine what you'll have with the different wheel/tyre combinations.

What cup wheels were 16"? Does your car have rear spacers installed from the factory?

1982 would not have had spacers.....Also if you run 50 series tire anything bigger than a 225 will be taller larger diameter and have negative effects on handling and acceleration. Your speedo will also not be accurate.

Stock wheels for 968 which do not have M030 option. They look little different than 17" Cup's.

Gotcha, I know the wheel now.

I was under the impression that all S cars, and most if not all Competition Package cars had the rear spacers. Maybe just the Euro cars?

Euro S cars have spacers from the factory ... don't know about the others.

If factory records can be believed M415 21mm rear spacer came available at begining of '84 MY. Any car made before that has had them installed after leaving factory.

In ROW cars they were always just option even though they were very common. At late '86 MY ROW almost all cars got them. In all '84-86 about half of the ROW production had them and they might have been stock setup in some countries.

In US model they were optional and fairly common in early part of '84 MY. Around VIN 0450 they became standard and all US cars up to last '86.5 should have them.
