Default About to purchase '83 928, questions!

I just made a deal on this Porsche (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=330585094248) and have some questions regarding audio/stereo.

After I purchase the car I'll have roughly $1500 to spend on audio/stereo and whatever repairs are necessary after 180k miles (which hopefully aren't excessive). I'm planning on getting a new head unit, speakers, and adding two 10" or 12" subs in the back, along with an amp. Unfortunately, I know absolutely nothing about car audio, does anyone have any suggestions that they've personally tried?

Thanks!

I recommend you read thru the New Visitor topic posted at the top of this forum.

Everything is in there.

Get a PPI and use it to negotiate a better price.

Good luck.

Audio system should be waaay down on your initial list of priorities.

Myself and a mechanically inclined friend. We've already written down a checklist before we hand the money over.

I like the 'passed VA state inspection" and the list of things they are supposed to check. From recent ( last month) experience - they check lights, may look at brakes, and horn!
Note - no pictures of engine - big red flag!

If he does great work on Ford's or Cheby's and has no knowledge of 928's, you are not getting a very good opinion. It's a start, but you will be starting at the tip of the iceberg.

The car you posted looks pretty good, love the insides. I hope you got pictures of the engine, since the seller does not think it is worth his time to post them on e-bay, I'd be a bit worried.

I figured the VA inspection was a joke, the NC one is as well. I'm not leaving to pick the car up until late next week, so I've got plenty of time to change my mind if something about the car seems particularly fishy.

Thanks for the help so far!

I know he has built a Lotus Elise from the ground up, I doubt there are similarities between the two, but I'm very comfortable with his level of knowledge.

I was told I'd have pictures of the engine whenever the seller gets off work.

I'm currently in the Mooresville area, but I'll be moving up to Greensboro for college in a month or so.

This is just my opinion, and so it may be of little consequence to you, but i just bought my '82 a couple of months ago...at no time during my research before buying did i consider a stereo ANY part of the equation.
The note of the engine is what i like to listen to...

You can put a nice stereo in any car, leave the 928 alone...please...my 928 has been butchered severely by someone thinking that the 928 is a good car to show off a stereo system with...yer kinda missing the entire point methinks.

EDIT; hmmm..maybe thats a little harsh...if you want to put a big *** stereo in a 928...if that'll put a smile on yer face..have at it. Just seems a little odd to an old fart like me.

Cheers

Adrian
