Post 33 in the new visitor thread. That's not an actual photo, but it is a great help. Basically what you are looking for is any brown (ground) wire coming off ignition components. Coil wires attract corrosion inside their boots, both ends. And MP X (from the diagram) was the culprit for an intermittant NS on my car. Just b/c it looks clean and dry, doesn't mean the connection is adequate on these cars. The battery connections not just the +/-, and the 14 pin connector in the engine bay are other locations of note.

thanks for the suggestions, everyone. glad to report that the car is finally back home. as i mentioned before, one shop said it was the starter, another shop said it may be the timing belt. the guy that fixed it said it was a fuel issue.

apparently, the engine was not getting fuel and even though he had no explanation as to how that one shop got it to work by jiggling a wire, he said he was able to figure out it was a fuel issue by manually adding propane gas into the engine by hand. as he did that, the car then started.

unfortunately, he couldn't test the fuel pump because the fuse for it that runs through the fuel panel is bent and burned. a previous owner may have been messing around with it. so he had to create a makeshift fuse outside of the panel itself and once the pump diagnostic passed, he then did some work on the fuel lines itself. i'm gonna go back there later so i get a more detailed breakdown of how he solved the problem after the diagnostic because he wasn't there when i picked the car up today.

but i'm on the fence because as much as i love the car, things like this make me realize i may be on borrowed time before something else happens. he said that what i really need is an entirely new fuse block (the date on it is November 1984) because what he did, there's no telling how long that will last.

there are other things that i want to do to the car also like changing the spark plugs, air filter, putting air conditioning in it, etc. not to mention solving that "belt tensioner" light that comes on. but unfortunately, there are no mechanics around that know cars enough to work on this 928 and i don't own my own home or have the right tools to work on this myself. if it's not a Saturn or American car, these mechanics off the highway don't know what's up. it's not like the good old days back in the 90's. this guy is the only one that could probably work on it, but he's kind of like a shadetree mechanic. the shop is a garage behind his family's house and i think towing is their bread and butter why it takes him very, very long to finish working on a car. he could have had this probably solved in a few days, but it took him one month. apparently, three customers asked them if my car was for sale before i got there today. even driving home, the car still turns heads, as old as it is. that's what makes it hard for me to part with it, even though i know i should for practical reasons. it's hard to take a girl out on a date without air conditioning, porsche or not. know what i mean. i guess we'll see...

Meantime if this happens to someone else, it happened to me, problem turned out to be one of the hoses on the air intake was loose, had moved to the left enough to expose the intake to atmospheric air when the thing flexed. Fixed that, car now happy.

Also my 928S likes to ride on tow trucks. I guess it thinks it's fun every once in awhile.
