82 928 ran great and suddenly wont start
i have fuel but no spark except for one initial spark at the turn of the key. The green wire has continuity, the timimg belt is fine, fuses seem good, and i tried a different igniton module. My thought is something small is wrong but i'm pulling my hair out trying to find it, any help would be more than appreciated.

Neither.
The critical electronics are grounded via wires to two places on the passenger side cam cover. (The box per se is not grounded to the body. The connector you mention actually has ground terminals, but they terminate at the cam cover as noted below)
One is at the very top of the "O" in the word Porsche, the other closer to the front of the car at the junction between the "C" and "H".
The first one is completely hidden by an emissions valve. The only way to properly clean it is to remove the related valve and hoses first for access. Much easier than it first appears, BTW.
The very fact that you didn't know they exist is reason to start here.
If that doesn't work, try a three legged jumper at the ignition relay (30 to 87 to 87a), because that $60 double-coiled ignition relay is also notorious for failing sometime at the 25-30 year mark. Should be waranteed!

i have cleaned those grounds and they seemed to be in good shape before i had. I just painted the car, replaced the alternator and this problem i have was presumed to be fixed. About a year ago i had the problem intermitenly, and ended up cleaning the connector to the box, unfortunately this time the connector is not the problem. Which relay is actually the ignition relay.... i did notice that the first silver relay gets very hot with the ignition on.

Time to pull the CE panel, replace all fuses, polish all fuse mounts and relay tabs?
Also the little red lead to the battery hot post.]
Did you do the three wire jumper?

+1 on what the others have said ...
Sounds a bit like a failure of supply under load .. considering you get intermittent issues and spark at first. Check the wiring schematic (current flow diagram) for the ignition circuit, and clean and test at every connection.
You'll find CE panel layout on 928 specialists site, which will give you fuses and relays ... but double check your owners manual.
You can download the WSM which includes the wiring current flow diagrams ... but I'd strongly recommend the invaluable Jim Morehouse CD set, which you can get from Roger, direct from Jims website and probably the other vendors.
