Lateral or Transverse Acceleration Sensor
Part # (As far as I can tell),
996 606 153 00
Bosch Part # 0 265 005 100
Fault code from PSD Control Unit shows this to be faulty. So, whilst I'm awaiting our postal service to get it back together, I'm fixing other little things.
Got the little bugger out, and of course it's a sealed unit.
Question du jour:
Is there any other way to test one of these other than to follow the WSM procedures (With tools I have no access to?), or is it just cheaper and easier to replace the unit and carry on?
Thoughts, advice and scathing commentary as always, very much appreciated.

I forget if these put out a voltage or a frequency. If you knew that you rotate it 90 degrees along it's centerline front to back and that would be same as cornering at a G. Then check it's output. I doubt the sensor is bad. I would like at power and ground connections.

They're not all that well sealed, I managed to knock the cover off of it while R&R'ing the driver's seat.
You do NOT want to have to buy one, a used one is $600, not sure whether they can be had new.
I had a PSD fault that led to lots of messing with ABS sensors, the ABS harness in the left front wheelwell, etc. Ended up undoing the ABS computer connector (55 pin) and spraying the hell out of the pins with contact cleaner, which cured the problem.
This is their guts:

How many sensors like these are there? Is it only a lateral sensor under the driver's seat or does it use other sensors (yaw, lateral and steering) as well for the PSD?
Cheers!

If you are getting a fault, take it apart, the last one I did had small, dust like shavings of metal that was blocking the signal.

Thanks Guys!
I did additional reseach and unfortunately discovered the price. On a unit price per pound, I think this might win the award for most outrageous. It looks like it was used in some domestic products too, i.e. Mustang, Pontiac and Ford.
Anyway, I used DeOxit and some emory cloth on the connectors, and put it all back. Been too busy lately to really test it out, but the PSD appeared to be operating normally for the short trip I did today.
If the issue comes back, I'll pop the cover (Rob, really, is there anything you don't have excellent pics of????) and do a thorough cleaning and check. I noticed when I was putting it back in last night that there was some play in the cover I hadn't noticed earlier.

Just this one......
There's just this one sensor specific for the PSD, but bear in mind it operates in conjunction with the ABS , so the control unit is receiving signals from those sensors as well.
Best,
Rob.

Check with Mark Benton, at one time he had one of these from that GT. WSM shows a test procedure of lifting the driver's side of the car by x degrees and then the sensor should activate. So sounds like a fairly simple gizmo, just tells the controller when the body leans by a certain amount.

Rob,
Thanks for the clarification. Curious if the sensor from a Corvette produces the same signal output, as it uses a Bosch ABS/ESC system as well? Perhaps it can be adapted?
Cheers!

Thanks for the info earlier, and suggestions.
The issue came back after cleaning just the connections, and I've just had a chance recently (a few days ago) to pull the unit again, take the cover off and, not being able to find any issues visually...(I chickened out on removing the unit from the case) I proceeded to liberally flush with DeOxit and let drain overnight.
Q-Tipped the remaining cleaner, reassmbled and all's good now. The dash warning hasn't come back and PSD seems functional.

ooooh. Good to know. What is the price point on this sensor?
