Default low octane/cheap gas

i did a search here about it's ok to put low octane 87 into pre 84 us, after 2 fill up i am starting to feel the hesitation on low rev means under 2000 rpm and then it pulls hard with no hesitation and no knocks/pings, i am not due for a tune up for another 6 months, checked the coil and no corrosion, the car does surge a tiny little bit on idle, the only thing i also did was to adjust the throttle cable at the firewall with less slack, do you think it's the gas or just the coincidence maybe i am dealing with something else (i still have a 3/4 tank left) i was thinking about to drive all day to use it up but just in case there maybe something else. Thanks, Barry

What exactly do you plan on tuning up in 6 months?

that would be plugs, cap, rotor and spark plug wires, is there anything else?
Thanks

Perhaps stop putting 87 octane in the car...?

I guess with retarded timing it may work for a while, but the engine is not designed for that. Not trying to be a smart-a#$ but I think that is asking for trouble.

Cheers!

+1 on that, and what exactly is the price diff of a full tank of Reg vers High ?

edit: put in some octain boost instead of running it all through
I guess it does not matter to me as I only use the car for fun and I look for ways to burn more fuel to get more HP

I thought there was an argument made on the board that lower octane gas could actually make more HP on the early cars.

should we start another oil thread... LOL

One would realy need to look at the compression ratio of the eng, ing timing and detirmine what octaine coud be used. I just don't see the point over several bucks per tank

No need to start one, this one is pretty good already.

thats funny, I would never have thought that 34 % of 928 owners use low Octaine in their Hi performance engines, go figure. wonder what Hyundi drivers use LOL

Of course, the poll is for 16V cars, and not for all 928's.

the $ is $15.00 less per fill up, i did that to see if it's ok and not really try to save money but IF low octane 87 works then it's $180.00 a year saving, i am going to drive and use up the gas and then put the 93 in and see, but is this more or less my problem??? and pleeeease don't start the old oil thread!!!
Thanks

All US 928s from 1978 to 1984 are designed to run on regular grade fuel (87). Since mine is a 1989 I run premium as recommended (91) octane.

Didn't I read somewhere that the only difference in low octane versus high octane is that high octane has pre-detonation additives? And therefore, lower octane gas is 'higher energy' but may cause knocking depending on your timing.

Lower octane burns faster which may be a good or bad thing ......and early 928 USA engines are NOT high perfomance engines by any stretch of the imagination. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why they can last 200,000-300,000 miles.
