not sure that pitting will be worse on a slower idle. But the slower idle will not be a problem with those cams, they have no overlap!

Yes, but some people were advising fitting the GT LH EPROM....

The guy after you did a real number on that car.
Nice! Yes, the car was white and Mark did buy it. I let him know all I had done to the car while I owned it, Marcus Hutchinson had it before me. He used to be on the boards a few years ago, had that red wide body supercharged 928. One of the first. I recall Markus H. of GAA having some familiarity with the GT prior to it getting hit so it is entirely possible but I didn't hear anything other than "low mileage GT engine" and there was no rebuild from the time it left the GT and went into my engine bay. Part of the trade was my S4 engine block which turned out to be in great shape and I think went into a track car they were building at the time if memory serves.

Mine is a 89 s4 from Japan and it has the GT stamp on its head, I do not believe (but not sure) it has the GT cams.
Drop it in and tune it if needed, I bet it will be fine.

Brad-

If you have GT cams, there will be an '01' stamping on the rear end of each cam, like so. If it says '00', then you've got S4 cams.

I think it was the 00 as you say. I don't think the PO changed them.

Talking

I'll just resurrect this thread with the outcome...
The GT engine arrived in pretty poor (external) condition so I stripped it down and replaced all gaskets and seals etc. The water pump plastic impeller had separated from the shaft and just fell out! The GT cams looked fine so stayed in. The cam gears were as new but the plastic bushings in the tensioner arm were missing! The fuel dampers and regulator all leaked and injectors were clogged. Not too shabby then!
So the motor is now finished and in the car. Once the injectors were cleaned the car starts and idles very well, no problem with the S4 LH. Car seems quicker and smoother than before, or maybe I'm just kidding myself! The LH and MAF were rebuilt by Theo so that probably helps too. A few photos from the other side of the world then.
