Anyone know of a good mechanic in the Charlotte Area
As most folks know I ran into an issue going to SITM. My torque tube broke, and I had the opportunity to meet some great people. I wanted to thank all the folks that helped me diagnose the issue, as well as working at Dave's to tear apart the car to replace the torque tube. I made a decision to go ahead and get a replcement TT from Constantine and need to find a local person to put it in.
If anyone knows a good mechanic in the area or even in the Raleigh area I would appreciate it.
Thanks to Dave, Jeannie, Jim, David, Jack, Earl, and many other great guys that made the trip enjoyable even if my shark was crippled.
This forum, and the people I met at SITM make me feel that the folks whom own, and love 928's are the best in the world.
Thanks Harvey

It was great to meet you, thanks for coming to SITM!
Sorry you had the TT issue, even more sorry it didn't get resolved here.
But in the end you made the right call on stopping and waiting until you got a newer TT. Changing the TT once is a pain..doing it twice with in weeks is almost borderline nuts!! Ha. Ha J/K
Take care and it was great to get to spend some time with you this weekend.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help,
Dave

Ditto on Jim Burton @ Eurowerks... he was an apprentice mechanic at Hendrick Porsche when these were new. All the 'regular 911 mechanics' said to give the 928's to the 'new kid'. Lots of lessons learned.

From what I understand, Jim is no longer wrenching on cars. Instead he is focusing on the day to day operations of the biz.

Didn't know that... although with the move, kind of expected it was taking priority. Can he be specifically requested on a difficult job, do you know?

Don't know for sure on that one. A guy I know who wanted him specifically to do some work on GTS had to convince him to do it as a personal favor on a weekend. If I had to guess, I'd say it's not likely but I do not want to speak for Jim so you'd prolly have to ask him.

I have had very questionable experiences at Eurowerks. I think the problem revolves around the fact that Jim isn't very hands on anymore. My "local" mechanic is now Greg Nettles--about 1/2 hour south of Atlanta. That is my current solution as I do not know of anyone else to trust in the Charlotte area. Greg has been the beneficiary of that--I have decided to have most everything on my car done all in one shot rather than do a few things here and there until it's all done in order to spread out the cost. With Greg being a solid 4.5hrs away, I only want to take my car down there once every few years. Greg has had my car since February in an effort to get everything that needs to be done finished. A lot of what Greg is doing is stuff that Eurowerks "fixed" already.
In any case, if you can swing getting the car to Atlanta, I would highly recommend Greg--you can be absolutely certain that the job is getting done correctly with attention to detail--you won't get your car back until it's done the right way.

Thanks for all the info. Dave it was a pleasure meeting you and getting some sound advice. I will be talking to Jim later, and seeing what can be done. I do respect everyones opinions and the comments. I will keep every posted on the progress. That maybe in a few weeks as the wife and I are headed to Boston in a few days for some much needed R & R.
