CAI and blower fan questions.

I want to thank everyone for their help over the last week or so while I've been hunting down electrical gremlins...you know you're not supposed to feed the sharks after midnight...
I had a question regarding air intake upgrades for an OB. I have a 79 Euro and I was wondering if there were any CAI upgrades that could be done or as I saw in a avatar pic there were 2 small filters on the intake ports of the air cleaner box, which seems relatively easy to perform, but my question is how the box seals. I don't see much sense in buying a new filter just to cut it up for the seal. Any help in this area is appreciated...the PO decided to take the airbox out and leave the filter in the fan shroud...so it's no good.
Second, I had a question about how to remove the fan blower for R&R, I attempted to turn the blower fan on and let some magic smoke out of the fuse panel, the fuse was corroded and in general didn't look very good, instead of blowing the fuse, it melted the bottom of the fuse off. I replaced the fuse with a new one and it blew right away. I have a feeling theres a rat or squirrel nest inside the blower motor, but who knows it could be anything at this point.
Thanks for the help.
Josh

Josh please post pictures of what you have.
I would strongly suggest to refit the original aircleaner assembly and use a factory filter,
the hump faces up.
The original system is actually a very good system and for your 4.5 it would be best to return it to stock, there is not any other air filter system that will provide you more power than the stock system

I find it best to address HVAC fan, plenum and fusebox at same time.
Disconnect battery.
Remove fusebox.
Mark with sharp pencil and remove hood.
Remove a screw holding windshield base facia to fender so it can be angled upwards to let fan be removed from above. (or if you can break base free from body adhesives, fan and base can be pushed into cockpit downward)
There are several sheet metal screws holding fan in place you reach from above, including one in the fan discharge duct accessed by moving the flexible rubber duct connector.
There is another one, long sheet metal, running on an angle up into the fan, accessible above fuse box from inside car.
There are a series of retaining nuts above fusebox that hold the fan base/ air flap onto the body.
Disassemble and remove all to clean. Fan can be lubricated with some luck in a couple ways. Try not to damage the AC condenser when removing junk from the plenum.
Search. Stan has given great pointers in the past (much better than what I've given), and I've shown some good pictures.

I figured that I would have that kind of response to a "ricer" question about a CAI...albeit I thought I should get the stupid question out of the way, I had seen a pic in an avatar that had cone filters on the upper section of the airbox and didn't know if it was a kit or something that was fabricated. It just piqued my interest.
Chris,
thanks for the input on getting to the blower motor. I'll get at it today as I'm in babysitting mode...at least the kids can be gophers for tools.
thanks,
Josh
