928 gts win at donington
after missing the first to rounds of the future classics because i was trying to concentrate on building our cayman for the eurosaloons series, i couldnt resist any longer. my addicition to motor racing got hold of me!
so i emailed my entry monday fitted the rebulit gts gearbox that should of been in last year, but i never got round to it after work on wednesday night. then got a fresh set of tyres at 6.45am on thursday morning. after some other small jobs the car was ready, i qualified 2nd which was better than i expected as i last raced the 928 there in 2007 before switching to the gt2.
the new tyres were great and after dropping back to 3rd i slowly caught the lead pair taking 2nd after about 8 laps then catching the 911 lead car as we made the mandatory pitstop. i leap froged the 911 during the pitstop and started pulling a lead before the safety car came out and i had to start again. i eventually pulled 5 seconds before backing off on the last lap to win by 3 seconds. these 928s always amaze me how well you can save the tyres and brakes on a heavy car over a 45mnute race. the guys in the 911 were surprised too they had a 900kg 2.7 rs replica with a 3.6 engine on throttle bodies etc giving 300-320 brake, and i could see them sliding about after 10 laps.
im back in love with the landshark, cant wait for spa in 10 days!!!!

Nice one Mark! Well done! My GTS block was bored/honed yesterday so I am waiting for the JE pistons to arrive from the USA. Then the fun starts. Hoping to do some races towards the year end...

thanks alex, the sooner you get the engine built the better, its no fun sitting out racing when the car isnt ready. ive been so busy getting the car ready etc ive just been fitting the gearbox oil cooler and pump and doing other jobs ready to leave for spa wednesday, i cant wait.
hopefully it will stay dry as i havent got any decent wet weather tyres.
i should have some pictures emailed to me tomorrow to send to mike who has kindly said he will post them here, as i am useless with computers!
