For those thinking of getting a dash mat....
Just thought I'd post some pics of my new dash mat for the 1989 S4.
I got the "Dashtex" fabric from Dash Design.
The pics below are of the mat placed on the dash with the provided Velcro strips. It is held down, but needs some more Velcro to get up by the vents nice and flat....
I also bought "The Shade" (from Dash Designs also), as I was getting tired of fiddling around with window shades that don't fit....
Here is how it looks before installation....
These are the tabs you put on the window....
Installed....
Took a bit to get it just right - the 928 window frame is not completely straight down. The odd thing about the unit is the two huge "bumps" - they are totally not needed and it would be a much smoother look without them.
From outside...
Pull it across....
Clip it in.....
...and voila!
You will note I made a slight mod - I cut off about two slates at the top so the shade would tuck behind the rear-view mirror...
Mod from the outside....
Shade outside....
Logo...
Other than the two unnecessary "bumps" that are on the shade, it doesn't bother me when driving - plus, it can be simply unclipped and removed if you don't want it there for whatever reason.

I think most of the dash mats I've seen look crappy because they're worn out. This one, obviously not. I wonder if they would be a good way of keeping a decent dash from cracking. Removable for special events?

I have a beige carpeted one if there's any interest.

That is the same dash mat I have. Really like the look of it.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. One quick snip and you would never know it's there.
Mind you, I do like the logo - but if you look really close at the stitch in the words below the logo, it has a slight "armature" look to it. The mat is stitched great - the writing under the logo needs some work.
After driving last night with the dash mat I can report it has a nice cozy vibe at night. The street lights don't reflect off it like off the regular dash. I like it. Plus, I don't have to see the few cracks that had started and I know they are at least less exposed to the sun now.

I believe it was you who posted a pic in another thread of your dash and that turned me on to the "dashtex" fabric. Wait, come to think of it - that dash mat was on a airbag 928. Maybe it wasn't you?
The black carpet wasn't too bad looking - I liked that it would have matched the carpet on the floors/doors....but when I showed some pics of the cover to a few friends, the reviews were not as good as the dashtex mat.
I have yet to see a pic of a 928 with the velour or suede dash cover, so it was a shot in the dark ordering one of those. The girl at Dash Design recommended the velour - said she had it on her car.
I went with the dashtex cause it just looked more pleasant to the eye for me.
I tell ya, if you want to not have a dash cover bother you - drive a 2000 Dodge Intrepid around while your 928 is stored. After getting used to the mammoth dash on that car, the small dash on the 928 is hardly noticeable. I could have thrown an old beach towel up on the 928 dash and it would have been less distracting than the vast desert of space/colors/materials used in that Intrepid. I swear, I could put a large pizza box on that dash......and open it up almost half way!

I think the mat is somewhere around $35-40 - I'll confirm when I have the receipt handy.
