I can just see Derek standing outside a broken down Bus (or train, but unlikely) jumping up and down screaming to get this piece of *%&#&# fixed so he can get to his 89GT....

OR, he got on the wrong bus/train and is in BFE..

Besides, Bus>Train>Bus trip from Ojai to Roseville, 2.5 days.... 89GT back home, 4 hours (or less) !

If it's like most new 89GT owners experiences... He'll still be driving it around (taking the long way home) with a perma grin on his face ..
I'm sure he'll report back in due time..

Or he's stuck somewhere in the central valley, along the side of the road. Afraid to leave the car to go get help. (!!!) (j/k)

Of course, this thread is...

Hey guys,

Let me start by saying, I haven't been on a bus or train since I was kid....this was in the 1970's. So, perhaps I was a little naive in booking this trip. Wish I had seen Coldbeer's comments before I booked. I would've tried a little harder to coax someone to give me a ride.
Everything was pleasant enough until we reached Stockton. AVOID STOCKTON! Rough looking town...rougher looking characters. Let me put it this way...even the police station had a 12 foot wall for protection from the outside.
(Edit: The whole bus-train-bus-bus trip took from 6:45am-4:30pm.)
Rob met me at the Roseville bus station @ 4:30. We did the deal....loaded the car with various parts and goodies (thank you, again, Rob ) and I was on the road back to Ojai at about 6pm.

Immediate impressions....

Interior/exterior condition is extraordinarily remarkable.
Tight...tight...tight. Steering, suspension, shifting...all wonderfully smooth and tight.
The revs climb quickly....very quickly. It's been a few years since I've had to shift. The GT definitely keeps you busy.
Pulls like an animal. I don't think I even broke much past 4k rpms, either. I know, I know...it's a GT. It was loaded with stuff and I want to change to the oil before I put her through the paces...(more to come).
The visibility was noticeably reduced from my 86.5. The combination of the aero mirrors and GTS wing took a little to get used to.

I didn't make it home until about 1am this morning. Once I've had a chance to recoup from the trip, I'll wash the girl down and take some photos.

I'm truly excited about this acquisition and am looking forward to a long relationship with this masterpiece of automotive engineering.

BAD KITTY...I didn't want to jinx him. :-)

Hi Bob,

Hope you are doing great. BTW, meeting you at the Frenzy last year after ALL these years (decade+++) was literally the highlight of the trip.

Hope we can get together more often in the future, if we keep up the current track record we might be racing walkers around the shop at the Frenzy next time.... I would prefer that not be the case!!

Cheers,

Dave

COOL!!! Congrats for a successful mission, and Welcome to the "Club"!

Stockton...if you ain't pack'n there...well....I feel for ya.

Funny about the 12' wall around the Police Station...if I hadn't read the rest of the post I would think you were describing Afghanistan...talk about taking a wrong turn in Albuquerque !!!

OH, WIND THAT BAD BOY OUT..it can take it!!

Derek,

Since you are a new 89GT owner we will cut you some slack..but an 89GT is NOT a Girl... it is a Bad MF, it should be refered to in a masculine way, i.e, "Bad Boy", "Mean MF", etc.!!

HA HA..J/K ..call it what ever you like!

Now, about waiting for pics until it is washed..sorry, not a good excuse! :-)

Let me make it easier for you to feel better about posting pics of it, even dirty.....if I can post the pic below, you no longer have an excuse to hold out on us!!

Here is my current 89GT...uh, actually my only "titled" 928 currently.

Those with weak stomachs should turn away...

Some day it will be brought back to life, I promise!!!

Dave,
Maybe you should throw a party and invite all 928ers to come and wrench to help you bring it back.
Oh maybe that is what SITM is really all about??
I will not be able to make to SITM as work interfered AGAIN.

Thanks guys, but let's not drift from Derek's "Happy 89GT Day and Thread", not fair to him. I am just trying to "celebrate" 89GT ownership. But yeah I want to fix that one up, but I have MUCH MUCH bigger fish to fry currently and for the foreseeable future.

So back on topic.....

Thanks for taking it "easy" on me, DR. lmao

Took my little red headed sex machine down to the car wash...

WOW!!!!!!! This ride is outrageously insane. The power is intoxicating. Got the courage to wind her up to about 5500 in 3rd....holy sh*t...talk about getting sucked back into the seat!

OK...here are the pics...before the mob gets any angrier...

FWIW...the pics came out on the yellow side....time of day methinks. The color is much bluer/deeper red in person.

It took a ton of luck...scrimping...and, ultimately, the ancient Chinese art of "ti-ming".

The wheels are great. I fear finding appropriate shoes may prove challenging.
