Yes, the weakest part of the equation, as I've admitted more than once on here, might be the space between my ears.
What I am gathering from most is having the belt tighter (i.e. especially with a shorter length) is nearly always advantageous.
As I said privately, Roger, thanks for being a good vendor!

My '91 has the shorter belt. It is my understanding that the shorter belt was used on all 928's using the newer 10PA20C compressor (this compressor also has a different adjustment bracket), which AFAIK started appearing on 928's from '89 onward.

From the past 10 years of ownership its my belief theres no hard and fast time or model year of absolutes with the 928.
If they had the older parts in the bin when your specific car was rolling down the factory assembly line then thats what it got fitted.
Also factor in all the previous owners who did whatever.
2 pulleys, a belt, a compressor etc.......its fixable
good luck!

Thanks, Dan. I have a 10PA20C compressor, too. Roger confirmed that he's sending a 13mmx1075.
If 13mm is too big vs 12mm, NAPA has the 12mm x 1076mm in stock. The key is probably my cleaning everything up on the pulleys and getting to sorting out if the compressor is toast.
Hopefully the temperatures are better @ SITM than Florida!

To close this one out, I am sure my AC is going to need a full makeover BUT....
I did verify the compressor was not seized, used brake parts cleaner to eradicate my prior dressing of the squealing belt and generally got my head on a little straighter to limp my AC through SITM.
Thanks for the help everyone!
- Roger shipped my the 13mm x 1075
- I tensioned it properly
- Charged it with R134a because the prior owner had
- My air was conditioned for the 550 mile trip to SITM (now there is no need for AC here)
