remove the radiator then the reservoir for the PS,
then you can work on the pump.

On my old 88 S4 to remove PS pump to install refurb kit I had to pull fan shroud up an inch or so to allow clearance for alternator pivot bolt. I couldnt access banjo bolts at pump without removing alternator (don't need to disconnect, just lay it on something so leads not stressed).
Even then needed crows foot wrench on one of the banjos as it's tight there.
One of the bolts holding pump onto alternator "cassette" is well hidden! I recall 3 bolts hold pump on

If you have to "drill out" anything on the motor in place the radiator out will give you room for the drill. Other wise it may be too tight. The radiator comes out VERY easily and fast. ( 15 minute job )

The rad and shroud should come out to ease strg. pump removal and reservoir.
The res. is changed as typicaly both the feed and return oil lines leak and the res. has a built in filter that is built into the res. and as such cannot be sucessfully cleaned or changed.
Once the new/rebuilt pump is in place and the new lines installed the entire system can then be flushed to fully compelete the project for another +20 yrs.

glad others have found out what i have,
that a radiator and PS reservoir in the way limits what you can do, and in the end will usually take more time to complete other things, plus then you can clean the radiator and replace the PS lines and reservoir

Note it doesn't fit the 100bar pumps used from around 1990 onwards.
I just ordered another one to do another of my S4's PS pumps while I've got it out of the car. Weirdly, this PS pump was poorly painted with silver spray paint. I wonder whether a PO paid a workshop for a new pump, and got a used one which had been tarted up to look new?
