On all my CIS cars the worst issue was build up of varnish in the fuel lines. Fresh gas and plenty of techron or your fav fuel cleaner will work wonders - should improve after a couple of tanks.

Thanks guys for the all help so far. Looks like CIS troubleshooting is in my near future.

Yea, the tank has fresh gas and a bottle of Techron in it now.

I'll touch base with you tomorrow Roger to see if we can get some stuff sent up here to work on it Friday.

Default Update: Now fuel system

Got the pressure test kit from Roger, thanks for the quick turn!

Unfortunately, I didn't get to use it because I found a fuel system leak at the tank.
This brought things to a halt, and I decided to really go through the fuel system delivery first. Altogether, it appears to be a bit rigged, so I want to get it all "buttoned up" right.

So now I'm on the hunt for MY '78 plumbing, fittings, tubing, FP and accum. mounts.

I wouldnt worry about the secondary pump or orientation of the accumulator much, yet. Get the gauge set, and measure pressures. You can check delivery easily now - disconnect the return line (over the RHS cam cover), run a hose from it to a container, bridge pump for 30 secs - should be ~1350ml. If this is down much, look into the pump side. My 83 CIS has only ever had one pump, delivery is no issue. Accumulator has more to do with hot starts than with power or response AFAIK. If the accumulator is not leaking fuel, its usually OK. I also have taped up wiring for a second (in-tank) pump, but it was never fitted. Failure to respond to throttle (except when opened VERY slowly) can also be a frozen mechanical advance in the dizzy. Some have had success flushing dried stuff out of the lines by bridging the pump and leaving fuel (with techron/berrymans in it) circulating for a while, then replacing the filter.

I read you. I have the fuel tank down to replace hoses and fix a leak.
WYAIT, I'm going to fix up those hodge-podged lines with the double-hose clamps.

Also, I need to sort out other fueling concerns "emissions add-ons ca. 1992", ie. frequency valve, lambda control, etc. More to follow on that.

So after some research and a PET system diagram analysis (Thanks Roger! )...
I believe I have a better understanding of how my fuel system should be set up, at least from a plumbing perspective.
Still trying to get a handle on how the accum. and filter mounts up, as mine may have a pre-production setup.
For that, I will need to get my eyes on an early ROW 78, earlier than S/N 01259. It just so happens Charles (cpayne) has ROW #1154.

Number Six should have had a secondary FP in the rear wheel well, but it was removed and bypassed (lead pwr wires still exist). May have been done at the factory in '78, around the same time the tank was replaced. Looked like it had been in situ for quite some time.
For now, I will leave it be as it is. If it left the factory that way, will most likely leave it for the long-term.

So, I've narrowed down the pieces that I need. Take a look...
If any of y'all have an early Euro, with early parts available, feel free to contact me. Thanks!

PS. The pics of Dave A's (Sharkskin) 928 does not apply anymore.

Default bump

Just checkin' back in to see if any of you fine folks have stashed some early Euro fuel system parts.
All the stuff I'm looking for (see post above) is NLA from Porsche.

Any leads on these 3 parts would be most appreciated!
