Three Wheelin'
Not sure I agree with painting the calipers on the car, but apparently this guy did it.

Good Lord.. "...didnt want to go to the trouble of taking them off..." (to paint them) but he went to the trouble to mask the entire car?? !
My vote is red then silver

Chuck: The 4 calipers are remove from the car right now. Would never paint them on the car with all the crud and dirt there! I think the only way to do a realy good job is to remove them. And specialy if I change color.
Malcolm: Do you mean I should go back to the flag mirrors?

Black is best for your color imo. When you have a unique and vibrant color there is no need to draw visual attention to the brake calipers. It detracts from the "essence" of the car/color combo.
If you have a common or less striking colored car (Guards Red, White, Silver, Black, etc.) then painting the calipers a bright color like red or yellow augments the car's appearance.
For example, I love Chuck Z's Midnight blue GTS with the Japanese mud guards on the the rear but the red brake calipers detract from the car.
I'm of the opinion that the 928 is one of the iconic and most timeless designs, like an e-type Jag. To modify it's appearance significantly is an abomination.

Reds are just what Porsche is about brakes. Its what a car like his cries out for. AND there is Porsche historical precedent. Porsche is KNOWN for the best brakes in the world and BIG REDS are descriptive
of what Porsche stands for in Brakes
of what Porsche stands for in Brakes

Thanks Dan. We all have opinions about what looks good on the 928 and while I respect your opinion I must disagree on the red calipers on my car. I think they really set the car off. If it still had the blacks, it just wouldn't pop like it does now. MHO of course. Personally, I would only do a color that was available around the time period the 928 was being built and that is red (noted with the exception of the 993 TTS which had yellow - the 928 was already out of production though....) Also, silver is acceptable b/c it's not so "in your face" like yellow. I could be wrong.

I'm still on the casual lookout for some metallic black for the calipers my black car. With the Zermatt Silver metallic finish on the rims, I put the same on the rotor hats. with grey zinc on the fins (that you can't usually see.) The metallic black would be just enough to show that they have been refinished without calling attention specifically to the calipers. It all needs to play together with the silver-and-black theme in the wheelwell. The Eibach springs are a metallic black, by the way. The other color in there is the 'gold' on the cad-plated fasteners for the liners and front spoiler, and the suspension fasteners.
----
One of the big 'first impressions" I had of my 928 was how nicely the front brakes filled up the rims. Even with the original 16" S4 manholes, there isn't a lot of room around the rotor and caliper. Fast-forward a bit and the 17" C4 wheels went on, increasing the visibily of the brakes but also adding more gap between the calipers/rotors and the wheel. Like double the gap! The cars with 18" and larger wheels have enough room there to reach your arm through it seems. Changing to a bright color with the bigger wheels calls attention to what now appear to me to be wimpy little brakes. Not wimpy like the brakes on the little FWD boxes tend to be, but nowhere close to the full rim that I think says the most. So the dust shields will come off again and get a full cleaning, and they may also get painted the same Zermatt Silver so they don't highlight the outer limits of the rotor diameter.
Just my humble opinion.

Thanks guys.
I think I would like to stay with a color "close" to the 928. Like Chuck said.
That is black (of course), metallic black (thanks Dr bob) and red.
Yellow, not for me. Too mutch related to the ceramic brakes in IMO. I think OG was right about it.
Not decided yet. I'll let you know when everything will be done.
Still trying to fix that broken metal plate bolt.

Just perusing the July Panorama, where there's a short feature on caliper painting. Albeit a 996, but amazingly they have disk brakes very similar to ours. Black, red, yellow, and (drum roll please....) dark grey metallic. They "updated" the factory blacks to red. No pics of them on the car, but the finished pics were good enough for the cover. Good comments and notes, including some on the stick-on lettering. Worth a look!

Very nice article indeed dr bob.
Good tips too.
Thank you.
Finally found the time to go ahead with that job and decided to go with red.
Will post more pics when everything will be installed.
Not in a close futur as I'm still working on my suspension refresh.
New shocks, lots of cleaning, painting, powder coating, replating...
At least, I'm almost finish with one wheel! 3 more to go and voilà.
