Hope someone can help me out. I am a long time fan of 928's. Looking to possibly pick up a project car. I have found a 1982 Weissach. Body is in good condition, no dents or rust. Car has 150,000 miles, but engine was replaced 5,000 miles ago. The car needs new paint and the interior needs cosmetic work. Car has barely been driven over the past 5 years, but has been started every month. Is $3000 a good price? Second question is, I anticipate putting $4-$5,000 in it. Is that realistic. Also any idea what it might cost me for a good paint job. Any help is greatly appreciated. Looking to join the ranks of 928 owners.

Appreciate the feedback on the paint. Do you think $3K for a 928 that needs some work is a reasonable price or am I better of going out and spending $15-$20K on one that is in fairly good condition.

Sounds expensive from what you describe.
To redo a Weissach interior would be a minimium of $5K if you can find the right color leather.
A lot of much nicer cars out there for $3k to $5k.

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

I am with Jim and Roger on this one. A Weissach is unique in large part because of that interior and if it is not really nice it is going to cost A LOT of money to make it a nice Weissach again. Paint can be expensive to redo (just like the interior) and then the question about the engine...$3k for a running functional decent 928 is not bad though. Expect at least $3k in deferred work to be needed and THEN you can play with the cosmetics after that. I have a very, very nice '84 US S casually up for adoption for $9.5k that would doubtless be a better buy in the long run. That is ALL THE MONEY though, so the car is staying in my garage and folks would rather spend $3k on a car drive it a little bit, then realize it needs $3k in work, then it needs another $5k+ in cosmetics and they are in to the car for $12k and it still is not as nice as mine, but that is fine by me...just assume keep it...

James, Jim and Roger. You guys confirmed my concerns. Greatly appreciate you guys taking the time to respond and help me out. I think I'll walk away from this one.
James, I actually live in Georgetown. I know your not actively selling it, but can you tell me a little more about your '84 US S; is there a link where I can see a pic. Much appreciated

James tomorrow (Saturday) is the 2nd Saturday 928 gathering in Austin at the Bone Daddy's on hwy 183 for lunch... Come on out and we can talk about it more there. I don't want to bore folks here with talk of my '84, so we can take this off line. PM me your email address and we will chat more. I am more than happy to show you that car and all the others as well... Should be a good turn out for 2nd Saturday tomorrow as well!

Yea if you bought the weissach and then had to repaint it you would HAVE to repaint it the color that it demands, you might not like that color. THen the interior, do you want to stay with that color too to replace the FULL leather. I just bought a Weissach. If I was going to do it again the ONLY way I would buy the Weissach is if the PAINT is in good shape (which mine was ) and the interior was in great shape (which mine was). Otherwise find yourself another. You will save some money in the long run and be happier in the end.
