Default SharkWoofer install

Here is a short post on my SharkWoofer install.
Thanks to Hans we now have a VERY good way to put a hidden sub in a 928.
As some of you may have seen, and gave me crap about, I had a rather large enclosure in my hatch area with 2 JBL 12's, while is sounded great, it was a safety hazard and took up a lot of space.

The SharkWoofer hides the amp, my crossovers for the front MB Quart speakers and the low profile 12" sub.

Special thanks to Hans for his custom mounts for the two MB Quart crossovers, it was a very tight fit, but it did fit.

Sorry for the chitty pictures, I was on a time deadline.
If you all ready have your existing amp mounted in the spare tire area this is a quick instal, even faster if you do not have to deal with crossovers.

It is ready to go into the hole at this point.
I would advise every one to place the wires to where you can just flip the unit forward for when you need access to the battery.

Here are the crossovers mounted to the custom plate that Hans made for me.
(there will be a additional charge for any custom work BTW, but well worth it IMHO)

Hans had sent me a extra top plate and I used it as a pattern to cut the backing off of my very old carpet.
It is my understanding that Paul will be offering a new hatch carpet at some point, and again it will be extra cost, when they are being offered I will buy one.
Also I think Hans will be offering a paper template for those that want to use the carpet they have, for a small fee.

We marked the areas that needed to be removed, IE for the fans, speaker and vent holes with a paint pen and then used a retractable razor knife that we could control the cutting depth on to remove the backing.

It worked out well.

Partially done.

A couple of more BS pics.

I would also advise that you have some one who knows what they are doing to take time and has access to sound meters and other things that I do not know what they were to set the levels.

It sounds really good, and you can get enough bass to make the mirrors useless.

Good job Hans.

Feel free to ask any questions that you may have.

I never realized banjo's and squeeze boxes produced that much bass.....

As soon as I figure out what I'm replacing the stock speakers with in my 81 one of these will be going in.

That reminds me, I need to sent Hans a stock 4x6 speaker.

Look good Greg!!!

Banjo's do not make much bass, but a good John Philip Sousa March, now we are talking bass my friend.

I have a later model (89) interior in mine and am now only running the four MB Quarts up front and a big set of JBL's (IIRC) in the rear.
I am looking forward to what Hans comes up with for a full set of speakers.

That with the CarPuter will be the "Must Have" set up for folks that like a good March or get down with some Polka.

Greg, when you hit the front cross overs, I take you had to run separate speaker wire to each from the rear? I've got my MBQu cross overs hidden in the door panels.

Thanks for posting the pictures.

Very clever removing the carpet pad backing to make the carpet more acoustically invisible while maintaining the stealth look of the system.

My buddie Jack suggested that I take it to a local interior guy and have him run his sewing machine with no thread in it in a pattern over the area where the speaker goes.
I thought it was a great idea.

Yes, separate wires for the front two speakers.
I also got word from Hans that he had planned for me to install the crossovers on the top, instead of the amp, as soon as we get time we are going to try that and see if it opens up some room.

I only can do work on my car when we are caught up (we are not by any means) or we are waiting on parts, which we are today.

Also, look for more developments from Hans in the near future.
It will be great news for the 928 music lovers.

I can not hardly wait to get my hands on a CarPuter, then I can get the GPS and the MP3 player off of the windshield and remove the Sirius Satellite radio off of the stand it is on.
Just that will clean up a lot in my car, as far as clutter.
