UNBELIEVABLE.

There's a 100 lbs of brass in those seats.

Fall asleep ... you are definitely joking!!!!!
That was AWESOME.
We have roads very similar to that here in Tasmania, and have just had an international event with similar stages.
I enjoyed your previous runs ... this was brilliant ... can't wait to see more.

Awesome video Cortina!

Couple questions.
About how long was the course and what was your average speed? Also, (this may be a really stupid question but..) what is the purpose of the co-pilot?

Rick, the co-pilots words are pretty muffled but at times you can hear him giving instructions on corners to the driver. I guess in rally terms he's the navigator.

Would the "navigator" have a map of the course and be giving him instructions on what is ahead beyond the driver's sight?

It is such a shame there isn't more on-road stage rallying like this in Mainland UK, I think they're not allowed to by EU law or something? Regardless, it's great to see you harking back to days of things like the RAC rally!

Hi

I really enjoyed that, great car control

I winced a couple of times when you grounded (which I do a lot lol)

I loved the 2 x 80 mm fans on the dash....demisting I assume ? By the way if you need bigger ones my computer shop has them and I could always send a couple over to you for free... we do 60 mm, 80 mm, 90 mm , 120 mm....

Out of interest are you limited on wheel/tyre size to the original 16s for example ?

A hugely enjoyable watch, thanks very much

All the best Brett

Few questions in there..

navigator : Main jobs a) Pace note reading - we drive route in a road car at about 30mph , and make a code for every corner / bump / distance - that then gets read back to me during rally , so I know what's next ... timing is kind of ... err ... critical. b) route communication - linking the special stages (closed road bits) , c) timing of everything

Stage - Google "Molls Gap" - runs from just outside Killarney to near Kenmare - Southern Ireland. It was 10.98 miles , completed in 10mins , 20.7 secs. Stages are timed to 1/10 of a sec.

Tyres - must be 70 series - on dia original (could be 16 or 15" in my case) - very few choices. Avon CR6ZZ , Kumho V70 and a Dunlop Tyre. Competition compound - expensive and don't last too long (a set lasts approx 2 rallies - 120 SS miles per event typical) SS special stage. (185/70 *15 ... so very skinny)

Must go now , am off to Isle of Man in the morning to do Manx National Rally ... 3rd event in 3 weeks ... I'm tiring ... so is car ! .. and I still have 4 hrs work to do on it !

Just a bit of background to this sort of event (keep me right Cortina if I get it wrong).

In the UK, i.e. England, Scotland and Wales speed events are banned on public roads.
For this reason all competitive sections of rallies are held ocassionally in the grounds
of stately homes but mainly on forestry commission land hence the famous forestry special stages.
On the connecting public roads a low average speed must be adhered to and both the police
and rally organisers set speed traps to ensure this is the case.

Northern Ireland although part of the UK has always had separate laws on this and allows
roads to be closed for rally stages and circuit racing for both cars and bikes. I don't think
there are closed road races for cars any more but there is for bikes and this goes
part way to explaining the great performance of Ulster riders at the Isle of Man TT races.
If you are not familiar with the TT races Google it. The riders are just beyond belief
racing at speeds of over 200 mph on normal rural roads surrounded by walls, posts,
houses and all sorts of road furniture.
Southern Ireland also allows speed competitions on closed public roads which is what
we see Cortina competing in.

Lastly, hats off to Cortina and his navigator. It's no mean feat to average around
60 mph on narrow country roads.

Team Glasgow ?
Almost correct - England and Wales , not allowed to close public roads (currently under "review / lobby")
BUT ... there is now (and has been for some years ), two closed road events in Scotland !
Jim Clark Rally ... coming up soon from memory - nr Kelso ,and Isle of Mull ... which probably has it's own rules anyway !!!

Another stage from this event now up and running on Youtube - Cods's Head ! (look under poster name - lazybeaver.)

time for ZZZ's - boat for Isle of Man in morning ... Manx National Rally !!
