Default Torque tube - How noisy is too noisy ??

Since last September, I am trying to identify a noise coming from the front of the TT or the clutch.

When the clutch pedal is pressed there is a no noise. It appears when released - when to tube is turning. It doesn't seems to increase with RPM but with the engine noise, it is difficult to be certain. When driving , I don't hear the sound.

After talking with two independent Porsche's mechanics, they both pointed to the release bearing. So a new clutch kit (including the pilot bearing) was installed last month - updated with the new style arm and guide tube. My mechanic explained that the release bearing was in bad shape and the clutch disc was almost to the rivets. But everything else was in very good shape.

Anyway, I took my iphone and I recorded the sound 18 inches away of the driver side door this afternoon. It start with the clutch pedal pressed then release and I repeat a couple of time.

What do you think ??

Default Sorry, but...

Luc,
You're going to have to get underneath the car with a mechanic's stethoscope and check the driveline to isolate exactly where the noise is actually coming from.
Once you figure that out, the solution should be readily apparent.

If it's really still at the front (noises migrate to the strangest places), and you've already dealt with the obvious, then not sure what it might be.
Best,
Rob.

Pilot Bearing in the centre of the flywheel - supports the front end of the pilot shaft.

When the clutch pedal is pressed (and car stationary) the flywheel and pressure plate rotates but the friction plate of the clutch and the pilot shaft which is supported in the centre of the flywheel and central shaft don't rotate.

Wrong - when the clutch pedal is released the central shaft is turning.

I thought that the arm and guide tube was superceded by the GTS part?? Possible that your parts aren't compatible with the old style arm and tube?

I bought a mechanic's stethoscope and took a closer look and the sound is definitely coming from the front (near the clutch) .

Maybe the front TT bearing.

Hi, did you get this issue sorted? Just seaching through posts and found yours, listened to the noise, i have what sounds exactly the same, changed the clutch about 6 months ago, the problem has just started, it goes quiet when i put my foot on the clutch.
