Default Just ruined my speedometer...any ideas/help?

I thought that my odometer gear replacement was going pretty good, but while I was attempting to remove the speedometer needle from the needle shaft that is mounts on, the shaft broke and now it is toast. Anybody have any ideas about how I can fix it or do I just have to buy a new one?? Can I just replace the back electronic part and keep my tumblers, or am I on the hook for a whole unit?? Any ideas what these things cost?? Are they crazy expensive??

Thanks, as usual, for the help. I always seem to need it!

Palo Alto or Hollywood speedo will be able to fix that.

Great idea Jim!! I found out that there are a couple of places that work on speedometers in Wichita. I will check on Monday to see if this is something that they can work on so that I can get things back together quicker and be driving again. Anybody know if this is something special that only a few places like the one in Palo Alto would be able to do??

Hopefully things are not as bad as they seemed to be!

Anybody know how much a new/used speedometer is so that I have a baseline for any repair estimates??

Give a call to Tom at 928int'l on monday. He should have a lot of used ones.

Unless someone breaks one they last a loooong time.

Yeah, I don't know what the heck happened. I was just pulling up carefully like the write-up says, and next thing you know, I was holding the needle with the shaft sticking out the back!

I just looked on their website at new ones!! I sure can't afford that!!

Default Hollywood speedo

I did the same thing, sent to Hollywood, they fixed it and calibrated it. If I remember correctly it was around $200 shipped.

I haven't been able to call anyone for prices since it was the weekend. Do you remember where you got one for $75?? I'd pay that for a used one.

Just talked to Palo Alto about repairing the speedo. They can fix just the speedo shaft for $95 plus shipping (which seems pretty good to me), but that doesn't include anything else such as calibrating the speedometer. If it didn't need calibrating before I broke it (it was dead on), am I correct in assuming that I don't need to have it calibrated once it is fixed?? Any thoughts on anything that I am missing??

Thanks Jim for turning me on to PA Speedometer!

Got my speedo back from Palo Alto Speedometer this week. It looks fantastic and they seem like a great business!! I am in the middle of doing other things to the car, so I haven't been able to drive it yet, but if it works as good as it looks, then I will be one happy shark driver!

Thanks again to Jim for pointing me in their direction.
