19 only closes when the car is upsidedown, the vent line is allways open for ROW cars.

All USA cars are open too. The carbon cannister acts as a capacitor, but vapor/air can always flow out/in.

And yes the vapor recovery ties into the plumbing for the overflow tank.
That could happen if the inversion valve jammed closed. In my 82 the valve is mounted vertically and it acts like a simple non return valve, which could conceivably jam in the up (closed) position during a fast fuel fill or an air bubble burp. I got it to close when running air through it fast while testing.

It is a very simple line with only the inversion valve for safety.

the vapor recovery system with the charcoil canister was only for UScars, for ROW this was
optioncode MO26
.
Maybe some ROW cars don't have it but all Australian cars have the charcoal canister and its not listed as an option.

Why bother with a vapor recovery system mandated by federal law if there is an open vent line ?? one with a more direct route for vapors to escape. Fuel systems have been sealed for YEARS. Part of the smog testing for years in California has been a pressure check of the GAS CAP....new regs are to pressurize the entire fuel tank/ vapor recovery system as well. You think Porsche would risk having illegal cars??? Given that the fine is up to $25,000 per day, per car ????

Every ROW 928S has an open vent line.
The fuel system was NEVER sealed on ROW928S,
This is no problem at the yearly inspection in Europ, its true Porsche made
a version for California,optioncode MO27.

Look at the PET,item 19 partnr 928 201 083 02,called absperrventil only closes when you turn it upsidedown.

Hi All

Unfortunately I think I am going to HAVE to replace that "breather tank" ...as although I filled my tank to the brim when i posted this and could smell NO petrol fumes at all....it is now a few days later and occasionally I can now smell petrol, particularly when I come to a stop... and even more precisely when I park my car at home , its parked with the back end slightly down a slope so the back is roughly 4 to 6 inches lower than the front....

Unless someone can think of a way around that tank ?

All the best Brett
