Default headlamp shrouds

I've got an unusual passenger side headlamp shroud issue.

I has a bump on the housing that is raised like an inverted hail strike.

I figured I'd get it undented when I got around to working on the headlamps.

Well tonite I started working on them and much to my surprise they are plastic.

How in the world was the one damaged in that manner and how
do I get it fixed?

I didn't have a camera with me -- as a picture would be better than
my words can describe.

I almost thought the lip had been hit by a stone or something and dinged upward, but being plastic -- there is no way that happened.

ideas?

also does someone have a "how to remove the headlamps from the assembly"

thanks,

Mike

Bump:

I've got the Euro headlamps and have condensation in them.

I've been told to heat up some windex == swirl it around then blow dry.

Would like to tackle this this weekend -- however I don't know how to remove them.

I've looked it over -- but would like to see a how to -- before I break something.

pointers.....?

thx.

Do the lights on US 928s have the little tell-tale nipples at top which are visible at night from driver seat?

If so at some point the light may have been adjusted for aim so far back that it tented the plastic shroud.

Shroud just attached by 3 small screws. If you want to remove headlight itself just a couple of bolts to mounting yoke then just pop ball of support out of the socket at the base.

For the headlamp shrouds try 928 int. These are something that hardly ever get damaged.

I used Big Daves write up on upgrading/ replacing H5 headlights when I did my '85. http://members.rennlist.com/bigdave/index.html

This should at least give you an idea of how to remove them.

US lights have the nubs on top. Cool feature!

Use care taking everything apart, there are some bits that look like they snap in or press fit, but don't - they shatter upon disassembly. Sorry I can't be more specific, I can't remember much from when I replaced mine except that I broke stuff that was avoidable.

So what exactly shatters after disassembly.

I ask as my driver side shattered -- and glass was in the lamp, the bulb was
attached to the "connector"
however on my passenger side -- it came out clean, but once I pulled the bulb out
of the socket on the drivers side -- EVERYTHING looks the same between the two sides.

So -- was my passenger side broken previously?

I haven't reinstalled yet -- so I haven't tested things.

BTW, Where do I find the gaskets for these -- I've had to clean out a bit of corrosion in there -- and I'm assuming its from old gaskets.

it looks like your ready for a new set of headlamps replace both sides if they look like the ones in your pictures.
I was going to suggest to get some hondabond and some blue tape and tape off the seam and run a bead of HB around this then let it sit ,
this will reseal the glass to reflector, and keep it dry

1) I was told these are quite expensive (> $300 each?) so I'd prefer to not replace them if possible
2) I was told to use heated windex and a hair dryer to remove condensation
3) Is the source of the leak the gasket, or the glass, reflector interface
4) This is the worst of the two -- but not by much
