Default Clutch question

I have a 80 Euro S car. Installed a clutch and used central shaft about 6 moths and 5000 miles ago. Shaft was in perfect condition, no wear in splines prior to installation. Clutch started dragging so I pulled the clutch to find the front disc splines and shaft splines worn pretty bad. The splines on the rear disc were perfect . Installed some used parts for and the clutch is functioning perfectly for now. What would cause the accelerated wear in the splines?

Most probably no grease or wrong type of grease used on the splines.

I concur with Dan's diagnosis, for what that's worth.

Courtesy of Rob Edwards, "I think (think!) Stan is referring to Montagepaste, AKA Optimoly HT grease, Porsche P/N 000.043.004.00). Sticky as hell, so as not to spin off onto bellhousings, etc. I got some for my clutch job."

if you search using terms "spline grease" you'll get a nice background on the subject.

sorry to hear of your problem, but these cars are a place for higher learning.

I always use silver never-seize on this stub shaft and have never seen any wear from it.

It is also possible that your int plate is not adjusted properly and one disc is rattling around more than the other.

Ok well this time around I used ARP moly bolt lube. Hope that should be sufficient? So far so good....
