Jenyap: I think they are to save you trouble in the long run. I think you have junk in the front, not the trunk.
The piping doesn't run in series does it? I mean isn't he proceeding from an erroneous assumption that blockage in the rear valve is cutting flow to the front. I'm just trying to understand the system.
I had a malf. in the rear-- no "click"; it must have been electrical, I cleaned connections, solenoid clicks, air is cool.

Have you checked your heater valve at the back? Mine was missing and caused similar symptoms to yours.
Even if it is working, there may be a leak in the rest of the system, causing it not to work, I found out the hard way.
Best way to check the heater valve is to zip tie it closed, and see if it makes a difference to the cooling. Mine is permanently zip tied closed, who needs hot air in dubai anyway?
