Try The9Source. PM Benton on here...he is the owner who parts 928's and his prices are great and parts are good usable stuff. He only has an eBay store now, but if you PM him with what you need, he will respond.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. I plan to go pick this up this weekend. I'll let you all know how it goes.

I don't sweat the small things. People are all entitled to their opinions. All I ask is if you don't like my idea or decision, let it be known, then leave it at that. I take everyone's advice with a grain of salt. Nobody knows all the answers.

I know what it's like to dump money into a hole without expecting to get any of it back. I am a boat owner. Plus I've been into 1/5 scale gas burners for about 12 years, both of which are 10k per year hobbies with a zero return. I also race snowmobiles in the winter and I would never get rid of any of them. Not one of them is worth a third of what I paid for them.

Good karma with the pick-up and trip home!

I started following the thread last night and am keen to see how it plays out. I'm thinking of 'upgrading' from a 911 and looked at my 1st 928 tonight.

Looks like I need to re-set my understanding of what a Porsche is...

Cheers!

DUDE!!! BUY THE F'ING CAR!!

3K is a steal for what you are looking at!

I paid 3900 for my US 82 5spd site unseen in 2004 I was pretty stupid about these cars back then, and still am! You seem to be more informed than most first time buyers!

I hauled it from Milwaukee to Cleveland, MN on a trailer. Then I unloaded it on Jan 14 @ -20 F and trashed the front spoiler during the unload. (Use blocks and create a more gradual descent from the trailer.)

Then, I proceeded to drive the "living ****" out of the car for the next month @ -20F!!! (No snow, Just COLD.) THE CAR LOVED IT AND TOOK EVERYTHING I COULD GIVE IT!!!!!!!

Then it had to be put away due to snow!

Sometime in April or May, I got it back out and drove the "living **** out of it, AGAIN" until November.

I got the bug SO BAD, that in the mean time, I bought an 86.5 auto site unseen for 5K! Again, STUPID, no PPI! Just E-bay hype! That was in 2005.

I rented a car one way to Pennsylvania and drove the 928 back.

It was an AWSOME drive home and what a machine that turned out to be!

So far I have put about $400 into the 82 since 2004 and continue to drive the CRAP out of it!

Originally I drove the living **** out of the 86.5 and it LOVED IT!!! The 86.5 is WAY more car than the 82!!

The hose from the head to the heater valve blew on a “spirited run” (3rd to 4th is at about 130 and it takes less than 20 seconds to get there!)

No problem, get the car home and fix the cooling.

THEN, I got more involved with the RL community! (Not complaining, LOVE you guys and all the support you have to offer!!!!!!).

I start to learn about these cars.

Fix this, fix that, fix everything else!

Motor mounts, oil pan gaskets, No problem, all is done.

Then, they told me to change fuel lines.

So I did! And now my car DOESN’T RUN!!!!!

I actually believe the original hoses were better than the ones I replaced them with! YMMV

BUT, I touched a bunch of electrical things I should not have touched!!!

So it goes, if you touch ANYTHING under the hood you are likely to cause MORE PROBLEMS THAN YOU SOLVE!!!!!

But, that being said, IF you can keep one of these $$ cars running the way they were designed to run, it will be TOTALLY WORTH IT, no matter the cost!!!

BUT the bottom line IS!!! Trip, BUY that 3K 928 and DIVE into the SHARK TANK!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m just say’ in, be careful and follow your gut!

These cars can be GREAT!!!!!

As far as the interior parts go, make Rob Budd in Detroit your new best friend! A bit costly but it will be all new and you can just do it gradually.

You can enjoy and appreciate the design and performance of a 928 just as well in one with bad paint, worn interior, stock wheels because as you are driving it as it is meant to be driven you are looking at the ROAD not the interior or the paint or wondering where the cupholder is....
May not impress your friends with the looks but odds are they are not going to hang with you in the twisty bits.

Trip...."I take everyone's advice with a grain of salt. Nobody knows all the answers. .." One need not have all the answers....just more than you do Now go buy that car and get on with having fun just be thankful it is NOT a 4.5 automatic as your first 928 !

Wow, euros have really lost their charm judging by some of the posts in this thread. I sold a non-running '81 5spd euro for $2500 just a few years ago, so I definitely think a driver is worth up to 3k, especially if the syncros have already been fixed.

Wasn't there some debate about euro 16v's being non-interference?

No luck on the sale this weekend, he's out of town. No problem though, I'll just have to wait a bit longer.

I've asked about the M28-11 being interference and I've received mixed results. So knowing that, I plan to do a tb/wp change when it gets home, just for my own piece of mind.

Jim it's funny you mentioned the 4.5 auto, because that's what I was figuring I would be stuck with considering my low budget. With any luck I will have this car in my garage in a week or so.

As soon as I get it here, there will be so many pics you guys will be sick of seeing my car. So be patient OK. LOL I know this thread is useless w/o pics (I saw where it was going up there guys lol) But I can't hardly ask the guy to email me pics while he's on vacation, I'll sound like a clingy chick.

Here watch the vid again, try to have it hold you over...

I've already made arrangements for pickup and transport, now I just need the guy to be home for me to pick it up.

It really should not be a valve bender drive it home. But no harm in doing the belt so you know how things look under the covers.

What I mentioned was a 4.5L 5 speed, which needed considerably less work (good paint & interior).
I showed it to you to give you an example of a better car, cosmetically, that may not have the power you are loooking for.

Trip,

go with the Porkensioner. I put one in my '84 Euro when I did the TB/WP and have had 0 problems, along with additional peace of mind.

Good luck, and good luck keeping your foot out of the 300 horses!

With gas at 4.25 a gallon, I hope to keep my foot out of it too! Although the seller says he's getting about 20 mpg driving normally. So if that's truly the case, I can handle 18-20 mpg. That's about what I get out of my Blazer and it's not nearly as cool to drive.
