Default My S4 custom 3 in. single exhaust

My exhaust is completed and it sounds amazing. As far as HP I believe its there but have no way to dyno around here. I tried to go as cheap as I could because it is just my nature, but I am very happy with how well it turned out. Total cost including all parts and labor around $450. Here is how it got put together from front to back. The 2.5 in. X-pipe is well made by a guy who built it and did not finish his project(purchased on Ebay for $35). I had my local exhaust guy fabricate it in place of the original H. Then I got straight 2.5 in. pipes from Advance auto to go into a Y. The Y is from Flowmaster as is everything else back. The 2.5 in. to 3 in. Y pipe goes into mandrel bent pipe that I purchased as a S bend kit from Flowmaster(I have plenty left is someone needs some). Using the S bends I placed a Flowmaster series 40 muffler in the original resonator spot. After that I used a another S bend to got out to the straight pipe. The car sounds unreal and I will try to get some video and better pics updated to this thread when I can.

Looks really good but there may be too much scavenging going on there after the x-pipe merging to the Y. How does the powerband feel?

As far as power it felt really good the first time I drove it but I was a little worried about too much scavenging. The problem I have is that my flappy is not working at this time. It was working when I first put on the exhaust and it felt great but that was only for about 10 miles before I encountered a problem that I would just as soon forget. Well anyway, after the intake was removed again my flappy is not working. When I get that working I will have a better idea because I do remember how powerfull it was driving it with no exhaust at all and a working flappy. Scared the hell out of the neiborhood but it sure was fun.

Your vacuum line may have popped loose. check for anything disconnected around the back of the engine after removing the airbox. Also, check the long line that runs from under the intake to the passenger side of the car. That I believe is the vacuum line to the flappy.

Thank you, I have not looked to much into the flappy problem yet. I do remember pinching the wire putting the intake back on so I will start trouble shooting there. After my bad luck with my engine I am just so happy to have a car to drive at this point.

Not sure where you are located but if there are any Rennlisters near your area, perhaps a second opinion may be really useful in diagnosis.

Hum- i am not sure i under stand the usefulness of an x with a y i thought you would just come out of the motor make a y and feed to a 3 inch pipe. Please correct me if i am wrong as i am just starting mine shortly. Thanks,Ray

In my research I have found that most people see gains with a x over a y and those gains seem to do the most good the closer you get to the engine. I did just debate putting the Y in. Eventually I will go to a true Dynoed X-pipe for a 928. I know there are some good ones being made but this was just to get me started for not a lot of money. I do really like the single 3 in. no matter how you go about it. The part I really do not like about my set up is that I left any of the old pipe. The pipe coming off the manifold is actually 2.25 in. I imagine the good x-pipes are 2.5 from the start.

It's a simple update later on to just cut the x-pipe out and move your y-pipe forward just behind the bellhousing. Consider the fact that you will have a single cat convenient too as opposed to being twice the price for replacing 2 cats later on.

I do not use a cat and never plan too. I was standing behind the car and I can not smell anything at all. I have heard the 928 runs very clean without it and I believe it. I think my 97 Ford Powerstroke puts out more junk with a cat in 10 mins warm up than the 928 would driving it for 2 days.
