How to confirm/identify a 4.7L motor?

I'm looking into buying a complete 4.7L for my project instead of going through the 4.5.

How via VIN from the vehicle it came out of or by engine code (?) would one positively identify a 4.7?

The safest thing, is to wipe clean the engine number and check what model the engine is. If ure looking at a US engine, here's a list of numbers:
