Passenger seat won't move foward

The forward switch is intermittent. I started the car and the seat went foward!!! I guess over the years of not being used, the switches stopped working? Who knows.
Astvic, I did as you said, and sure enough, the very last bolt to loosen, was stripped. So had to drill it out.
And then the seat wouldn't move forward again. GRRRRR. So off to Home depot tomorrow for a new bolt and pick up some other misc bolts that are missing.
By the way, even though this stuff is a b*tch, I still love this car. I guess its switch rebuild/clean time.

What happens is that the bushing on the end of the all-screw threads gets broken/crushed/deteriorated and allows the seat adjustment to move too far (off the end of the threads) and the seat gets jammed. On my '89, I removed the seats, turned them upside-down, and removed the all-thread and the seat adjustment attached to the all-thread. I removed the original bushing and replaced it with a thick nylon washer that I bought at a hardware store. I put it all back together and it solved my seat jamming issues. It took less than an hour per seat. The hardest part was getting the seat out.

That must be the exact problem with mine, because it only jams at the limit of movement ... and must therefore be going a bit too far. That's my weekend job ... thanks again for responding.

I'd love it if someone took a photo of the mechanism to show where the worn-out bushing is, etc. My seat sticks periodically and I'd be willing to pull it out to make the permanent fix ...

Even under the best of cicumstances, that nylon gear and the Allen-head crank are inadequate. If the cables stick at all, or there's time-related extra wear and friction in any of the cables or the rails, you'll strip the gear. Maybe it worked as a brand-new seat where a fuse was blown or something. Darn good thing they put a motor there to do all the tough work moving the seat. Good news is that the worthless gear that seldom works if at all won't be missed.
