Help ID my Paint
When I bought my 928 the PO told me while I was leaving that the color of the paint was a blue with a another name for German. So, I looked it up and came up with this:
Preussischblau
Prussian Blue#
33X
1985-1986
Before buying some touch-up paint I thought I would ask if anyone has seen this color before. It is a dark blue at night and midday but in the late afternoon or early morning when the sun hits, it turns a strange shade of purple. I mean it is purple and not even close to blue. I think I got it but just was wondering if this is indeed Prussian Blue before spending money on what I think it is. There are no paint code stickers on the car and originally it was red.
Thanks, Mark

Try these people....BETZ Speed & Color in Orange, CA | 1470 W Katella Ave, Orange, CA take off the gas filler door and take it to them...have them do a custom color match. They will make the color that you think it MIGHT be then paint a piece of sheet metal and COMPARE that to the filler lid. Then their expert will adjust the mix as needed respray the test and compare.. In the end you will have a very, very close match. Or spend $7.00 at Pep boys and have a polka dot car.

Well search is your friend many times over....I found my answer and good pics of Prussian Blue on a Porsche 928. Looks like mine in different light. Most likely the same paint code.
Prussian Blue 928 Clicky
Also found out this color has so much history. and "It has been used as an antidote for certain kinds of heavy metal poisoning." Looks good and could save your life.
History of PB
My Yamaha FJR is Cerulean Silver and has the same kind of history....cool stuff I think.

If your 928 is an 81, it is unlikely that it is prussian blue - it's not a standard color offered at this time, and US dealers rarely stocked cars in off-colors - particularly not colors that didn't come out until 4 years later.
Have you checked, if it could be pacific blue metallic? That would be a dark blue metallic available in 81.
You could also try to contact your favorite 928 parts vendor, and see, if they could look-up the paint code for your VIN.

When a car is repainted even in an "original" color odds are the aftermarket mixed paint will not be the same color type or material as original paint but something just close. When painting the whole car it matters little. When trying to do a fender or hood custom color match helps but even then they tend to blend the adjacent areas and clear coat.
