Appreciation for our cars seems to be on the increase

Went to Griot's today in the Seattle area and when I pulled into the detailing demo area several of the employees, who I am sure see great cars all the time, said things like "is that a 928?; nice car". Not bad when they get to look at the Rothmans Porsche and a few McClarens all day every day.

I had pit passes for Mark Martin's pit at a Daytona race back in the 90's. and as I was parking my 928 behind the pits the morning of the race, I had 3 members of Dale Earnhardt's pit crew give me thumbs up as they were walking into the pit area. Coming from them, I took it as a great compliment.

I was walking back to my car at the gas pump one day when an SUV pulls in and drives up slowly beside it then circles it twice and drives off. I guess it had been a while since he had seen a real Porsche. He was driving one of those "silly Cayennes".

I had a tennis match on Sat. I was meeting my partner at a Local gas station to drive down the highway together.
I parked the car kinda in the middle of the lot away from all the action and was listening to some Zepplin.
A new supercharged Jag pulled up next to me.(sweet car) and told me he was passing the station, saw my car and turned around to take a look! He loved it! The old statements were there, not many of these around, alwaays loved them etc.
He asked me to start it and when he heard her bark to life he had a huge smile. I rev'ed it and he was laughing away. Smiling ear to ear.
I told him what a machine his car was w/ the blower and he was surprised I knew that( car guy you know)
Told him I had thought about putting a blower or boost of somesort on mine one day and he thought that would be awesome. Felt like asking if he wanted to fund my project!
About everyday , as I drive it everyday, someone makes a comment. Never had a car that got so much attention!

Packs of Harley's love my 79.
Probably because it's the only car on the road they can hear over their bikes.
I was behind about a dozen sport bikes at a red light, they were all doing the "jingle bells" with the throttle to kill time. I opened up my muffler bypass (in cabin control) and barked it to 6k. It was quite amusing seeing that many helmets do a 180 like that.

I was at a sub shop getting lunch today and I had not seen the owner for some time and he asked about my cars. Others were around. We got to talking about EURO85 and someone said "928" during the conversation. Then he got busy and went back to work and a minute or two later a lady and her adult daughter walk up and said, "did I hear you say something about 928's?" I said yes that I really like them. The daughter then said, "When I was growing up that was my FAVORITE car that dad ever had. I just LOVE THEM!" I had my iPad on me and showed them pics of the collection and they both about fell over! VERY COOL! Wish I had driven one of them there to have shown them in person...

I got a little love in the Chic-Fil-A drive through line today... Well, more than a little. The people creeped around me checking out EURO85, then one guy rolled his window down and followed me all the way around telling me how awesome the car looked and how much he liked it and then the lady at the window showed EURO85 some love!
Like I said in another thread EURO85...TOTAL WALL FLOWER! NOT!
Here it is with the suspension settled on it and the splitter standing proud!

Mike, I think the 997's and the Cayman/Boxsters look quite good! Cayenne looks better than ever, but it is still an SUV and the PanAm...well, ugly duckling status among that group of cars is nothing to sneeze at and they sure seem to be selling a lot of them...

I agree... getting a big increase in head turns lately, especially in downtown Baltimore. My favorite comment, though, is still about three years old, from a pack of guys sitting in front of a barber shop on York Rd. in Baltimore (not the best neighborhood). I was stopped at a light; freshly washed and polished. They were shooting the $hit. One of them saw my car, broke off the convo, and instantly yelled out "Scarface, muthafu&cker!" Followed by "Oh $hit, he can hear us," when he saw me smiling (windows were down). Priceless.
