Excessive crankshaft endplay on automatic cars is the only real nemesis.
Pretty much terminal.
That's why anywhere north of $3K or so I'd want to pre-confirm spec endplay prior to buying.
Timing belt failure, so long as it wasn't at very high RPM, is a recoverable situation.
Running one prior to buying is important because it could have suffered timing belt failure, then been re-belted. Jadz928 did that with his Perl car. Drove it around Annapolis for 10 minutes just to confirm it was solid ( and it ran well ). Then shut it down and loaded it onto the trailer.

You can't go wrong, either way it's a 928. Don't let the difference in HP dissuade you either, because Porken makes an excellent chip for the 5.0L '85-'86 928's that'll put you in the S4 numbers easily, and it's very inexpensive. Go with the style you like and don't be afraid to wait for the right car.
Also, don't be afraid of it. It's a great car, but it's a car. If you can do work on a Ford Mustang, then you can do work on a 928.

I do not think so, it was off the road from 2008 to 2010, however before that I have every invoice going back to 2001 when the car was imported from Japan.
But out here who knows, there was one other Slate Grey s4 for sale quite recently but it had a sunroof, not sure what happen to it ( sorry for the off topic post)
