Default 1984 Porsche 928 - $4499

Anyone live near Clinton Iowa that might be able to check this vehicle out? If this thing is as good as it looks in the tiny, fuzzy pictures, I might be interested in purchasing it. I've been thinking about trading for another 928 (this purple nurple thing - http://desmoines.craigslist.org/cto/2233779109.html) but I'd much prefer an S to a 4.5 Liter one, as long as it is in similar condition.
Thanks for your help!

Do you think it's a bad price, good price, crapcan, enzo, etc? Again, does anyone live in the quad cities area?

I think you should call the guy and get him to send about a dozen or more pictures of it, inside, outside and engine compartment. If you can share some decent pictures then its easier to begin to qualify it for a closer look.

The price isn't terrible. But the condition is crucial.

Its impossible to see much from the craigslist ad.

And I don't think we have many folks routinely posting from that part of Iowa!

On a car like this, unknown history (if there were records, dealer would have led with that piece of hype) , admission that the miles are wrong, limited pictures, dealer.... lots of things suggest that typical $4000 of parts to rejeuvenate one will be needed.

Fairly maintained its just a $4-$5K car in this market currently. Just hard to say.

I think you could be at $10K real quickly ( investment on a car that's still worth $4K afterwards). Pictures would be good.

Will do, once I go buy some more minutes for my phone (damn pay-as-you-go phone!)

You would be much further ahead paying me $9500 for my '84 and having a car that with a little elbow grease (and not much of it) and something to cover the dash cracks would be able to win at a local concours event!

Thanks Andy, it is VERY, VERY NICE actually! We just put new seat covers on and then dyed the rear seat are to black (had been Can-Can Red and that really didn't go with the car). The last couple of things that need attention: Dash cracks (pod is pretty good and I wouldn't mess with it), cruise control not working and power antenna not working... Oh, needs an alignment too. No leaks and A/C works (though the head unit does not work right so you have to put it all the way to cool or all the way to hot). Do the dash and you can go win local concours events, do the antenna when you put in a DECENT stereo and the cruise if you are so inclined and the just drive the thing for the next 200k miles!

That's a beautiful car, James! However, it's a tad over my price range.

Thumbs up 1986 928S for $5000

I'm pretty sure I've seen this car for sale before in the past year...From when I talked to the owner, the car sounds actually to be in good condition, considering the high mileage.

Hmmm...I'll need to sell one of the toofahs to buy this one....

I may sound crazy, but I would directly trade my S4 for your 1984 Jim.

I have always wanted an OB since my Dad bought his '85 off the showroom floor. I don't care if it's only 240 HP. It's also cheaper to insure!

However, my fiancee would flip. She likes the S4 WAY TOO MUCH.

Oh dear! If James was ever going to entertain the idea of letting you have his S, he isn't now
