Default Head gasket leak? - Nevermind

Found a puddle of coolant on the floor this afternoon, tried to trace it and could only find this. It's at the corner of the block on the pass side, just above and aft of the block drain. You can see the drop of liquid right at the corner. If I look along the gasket edge, along the rear of the motor towards the center of the engine, the gasket appears wet there as well.

The puddle was maybe a 1/4 cup or so of liquid. I dried it off and idled it for a while, but didn't rev it or drive it around, so I suspect I'd get more of a leak once the thermostat opens up.

Prior to this was the cam gear/TB/WP job and I flushed the coolant 3-4 times and swap in G05. Could I have cleared out some gunk that was keeping this area sealed up? I only used water to flush, no other chemicals.

If this is where the leak is coming from, anything I can do short of a new head gasket to plug it up? Some stop leak or something? I'm tired of taking stuff apart.

I'd say heater valve, heater hose or L pipe it all connects to.

I recently replaced all that stuff and double checked them for leaks today... all dry.

I can't detect any liquid running down the back of the motor... as much as I'd like to.

Default leaks

Hello, you can check the overflow coolant tank. Mine was leaking at the seam and dripped down.

Checked that. It wouldn't be able to get to over to this part of the motor. I can see a "clean" trail along the head below that corner.

If it's not from that location, it's traveling along the back of the block down to this corner, but I can't find evidence of that.

Where your arrow is pointing, is directly below what I mentioned above. If that gasket is leaking (the one for the elbow mentioned) or any of those parts, it can and will drip down there.

Just call me an optimist, hoping that is the cause.

As Emily Latella used to say, "nevermind."

What a knucklehead.

Thank goodness you were right, Sean. It was coming from the hose at the heater elbow. I checked it with my finger the first time, not with a mirror. My finger would have never fit in there for it to get wet.

It was dripping down the back of the motor, down to the head gasket where I couldn't see it, then travelling along the gasket to the lowest point, that corner.

If that G05 stuff had some color to it, it may have been easier to spot. Maybe I'll add some Water Wetter to give it some contrast.

Thanks for the assist.

That G05 stuff leaves a trail that a blind man could find, and that is my biggest complaint with it, leaves a white residue when it dries.

I like easy fixes - good call Sean.
Now if only we had a good 928 mechanic in the DFW area 8>)
