Default Oil Analysis

I got my oil analysis from Blackstone. Beyond what they told me, can anyone give me some light on the results?

It was my oil I had in over the winter while the car sat and I did my intake refresh.

It's only one report. It's your baseline now. Future reports will tell you more. Don't get hung-up one one report.

Molly is also an anti-wear additive. That's why it might be "high". You could ask Royal Purple about this if your concerned.

Not concerned. Just want to understand what these things mean. I'll do an analysis per quarter to get a history going

IMO, that's over-kill. How often do you normally change your oil? Yearly...every 5,000-7,500 miles? That would be often enough.

If your racing, then I understand (and would agree) with your sampling process and frequency.

I change my oil about every quarter when I am driving it. Put about 20 on the low end, 30 on the high end per year on based on my normal driving. I bought the car 18 months ago and have put 30,000 on it. It sits in the winter though.

Aren't we supposed to be using 20-50w in these cars?

The UOA is good especially for 10w30. I wouldn't recommend using it though unless you are running the car at 0 deg F or lower.

OK, I understand.

IMO, in the future, don't hibernate the car for the winter with old dirty oil in it. Fresh oil is best.

I'll run the car in the winter here if there is no snow or ice on the road so it will see days at -10 or worse. The 20w-50 is a BIT thick when it is -3. Learned that the first winter I had the car. Lives in a heated garage. Drove it up in middle Minnesota, parked it all day and when I went out to start it I thought I had solid oil it turned over so slow. Now it is 10W30 once the temps get to 30 or below and stay there.

My 83 is more of a garage queen(12k mi in 8 years, now at 53k). My UOA dont go into quite so much detail as that, but first one they flagged Lead as a worry at 51ppm. Couple of thousand miles later, after a change, down to 40, given the OK, and Doug Hilary was happy with everything, considering lowest hot idle pressure is ~2.5bar.This is on Mobil Delvac 1 5W40. All of my other important numbers are small, even silicon. There are as many different UOA evaluations as there are oil religions. I suggest you look up an old thread on this with lots of input from Doug.

it all depends on your intended use......if you drive on track or "heavy" street use...I would run 20-50 unless you live somewhere seriously cold.... for everyone else the lighter oil is fine...however if you live somewhere really hot....15-50 or 20-50 is a good idea...

I ONLY run amsoil racing in any 928 I own...my street 928 started life on Mobil one until I started serious track driving...but for the average 928 owner, there is nothing wrong with dino...

I live in a moderate climate but make summer trips toFresno, where it is seriously hot. I do use Royal Purple because i've found that it maintains pressure better on those trips.
