Default Braided clutch line?

Curious, searched different permutations to see if any posts discussing replacing the clutch hydraulic hard line with a braided steel one as many other cars do and came up with zip.

Would seem with the snaking in and out of the hard line when replacing it or changin out clutch master cylinder, etc. a braided line would be much simpler.

Is there a reason this would not be a good idea on a 928?

There was a post from someone in CA who was rebuilding a car from the wheels up for his son. They did replace the two piece rigid and flex line with a one piece braided line provided by 928 intl (IIRC).

This maybe it.

Don't waste your time looking for one. The original one lasts 20 years and chances are you will have more issues with an aftermarket one than the stock one. Besides, ya don't want to do this job twice.

I think this is what you are looking for - see post #207 (there is a photo of the line). I checked with 928 Intl, and they were running $195 for the line and fittings.

I would really like to do this, but with other 928 expenses looming, I can't really justify at this point.

I replaced mine with an assembly built by a local hydraulic hose company (based on a recommendation from another 928 owner) and all seems to be working just fine...only ~$40...

I did the same, 3 years ago. I had it made at a shop down on Gasoline Alley in Indy. Cost me about $30.

What I meant was there a top to bottom braided line to replace all the hard lines, etc., etc. Makes removal much easier!

We have that. Greg Brown makes them up for us with Goodridge parts.

Ahh, I thought you were referring to a braided line to replace the blue hose. My bad.

Rob, could you tell us a little more about the hose in your photo. Was wondering if this was something you put together yourself or purchased ready? Also, does it attach / is it fastened to anything between the slave and hook-up point?

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave-

Jim should put his picture back up 'cause it illustrates the whole length of the cable and how it works with a stock S4 slave cylinder. Jim's is the configuration that Mark sells (linked below) but Greg can also make up different configurations for hybrid S4-dual disk setups like mine.

The plug-n-play version is available from 928Intl for $129.

http://www.mailordercentral.com/928i...0077%2007%20SS

The stroker engine has a 3/8" thick pan spacer on it, which necessitates using an early slave cylinder (whose inlet is angled differently vs. the S4 slave cylinder) and a banjo bolt connector for clearance. Greg Brown made up the flexible hose out of a bunch of Goodridge fittings that interface with the hardline at the swaybar bracket and at the slave cylinder. In between, it just zip ties to the starter wiring harness.

The goodridge line is actually cheaper than a new factory line..

Rob, thanks for the explanation...it clears things up nicely. I didn't realize your modifications necessitated the need to reroute the clutch line, but with the reduced spacing that makes sense.

Thanks,
Dave

Dave
