Default Antenna alternative

So want to know what you guys think. If you like or dislike...

My factory antenna was no longer working for whatever reason... so I upgraded. I think the porsche antenna weighed at least 10 lbs... This little vw item maybe a couple of ounces!

Excuse the pics they're cell phone so they're a little fuzzy...

It is a 2011 VW Jetta, Digital antenna. Supposedly capable of receiving gps, digital radio signals, etc.

It's polished gloss black plastic with a rubber grommet at the base that perfectly matches the contour of the hatch. I chose not to mount it on the roof for the obvious reason everywhere there's a hole there's the potential for a water leak, and if I change my mind down the road just rework the hatch and not the roof!

4drgl,

Several years ago my factory antenna died too. I replaced it with a Sky Year shark fin antenna. The cost at that time was in the area of 50.00 dollars and shipping to Vermont was less than 10.00 dollars. Mounting it was easy except for two issues, 1) squaring out the mounting hole I drilled in the hatch, the squaring is what keeps the fin aligned along the long axix of the car, 2) I first tried to reroute the stock antenna coax and powerline to the hatch location but gave up after about an hour, it took like 20 minutes to run new coax and a power line to the hach area and be done with it. I did spend far more effor on filling the hole on the rear quarter panel and repainting it where the stock antenna peirced the body. Here is a photo showing both the antenn on the hatch and the rear quarter.

Very nice I've been looking into doing this myself. The hole is already there from the PO's car phone.

I wondered if anybody had done this.

I was tired of screwing around with the coax cables too and that's why I went digital. I was trying to find an antenna that was similar looking to a shark fin.

Trying to make the hole square is a pain in the ****, but once it's right I think they look better than the factory antenna's.

I liked the audi A6 antenna too, once I saw it thought it was too big.
