Windshield Washer System
Okay, Forum I am going to attempt to get my Windshield Washer System to work again.
Any suggestions or feedback on what I should or should not do before I take this task on.

Oh seriously check out the threads on this topic, they include what to look out for, and there is one thread on how to simplify and improve the system with a little change in the plumbing, IIRC. MrMerlin will probably check in here with some good advice. It is a PITA.

Disconnect the washer hose at the passenger side of the hood and see if the pump works. If not, check fuse #6. If the pump runs but does not pump water, check water level in tank. If there is water in the tank and the pump runs but no water from the hose, you may need to pull the tank and clean the rust out. Double-check that the windshield washer pump is the one running, and that you are watching the correct hose (regular washer hose, not the intensive washer hose)!
If water comes from the hose going to the hood, first try cleaning the washer nozzles with a pin or piece of small wire. This may take several tries.
If you have the intensive wash system (probably not on the '82) and cleaning the nozzles has no effect, disconnect the hoses on the driver's side, tie a long string to them, then pull them thru to the passenger side. Make several photos of the hoses, so you can make sure that you know how they are connected. Remove the check valves and make sure that they work - free-flow in one direction, bocked in the other direction. Blow thru the nozzles, including blowing backward. Hook everything up outside the hood and make sure that it works. Disconnect, use the string (remember it?) to pull the hoses back thru the hood, reconnect. If you aren't going to use the intensive washers, you can hook the regular hoses straight to the nozzles, leaving the hoses and check valves in the hood for the eventual restoration.

I have found the non-return valve in the circuit washer and intense washer fail as they are make of plastic. I renewed my in stainless steel casings with SUS spring loaded internal spherical SUS *****. A GM product.
Did this repair around 9 years ago and no problems since.

Asssuming the hoses are not connected: look for the diagram in PET, then check against what you have. I went to an auto parts store and got some silicone hose and a few check valves. Easy peasy.

that fat line ,it runs along the top of the inner fender and then along the top of the internal bumper to supply the washers for the headlamps.
make sure to remove the metal collars from both the fill tube and the washer reservoir,
you dont need any metal inside the tank
then refit the big hose, dont over tighten the clamps/
make sure to rinse the tank out before you put it back in

Remove everything and replace with new. I messed with one for way too much time. Sold the car to Rick (Wyatt's Ride), he messed with for waay too much time. Found a problem in the combo switch. Don't remember the resolution, but I think he replaced that and happy motoring.
What Wally said: The crap you report in the res is probably rust from the metal sleeve in the filler neck. So you need to replace that and flush the res. Your choice as to the hose and nozzles, but the old ones are probably kinked. Test the washer pump with 12V. Getting to the connectors is a true PIA, and you will probably have to hire a midget contortionist to reach up into the engine bay get the rubber fasteners to relase the pump and remove it. It is even harder to get it back in and hooked up. Sell the car.

Thanks for bringing this up. This is my next project on my 82.
I know that I have to order some parts and the PET manual lists RL and LL parts with different numbers. I assume that RL is the right side of the vehicle as viewed from the drivers seat. Is that correct?
Thanks for the help. I'll read with interest to see how your's comes out.
