Default SharkWoofer recipients thoughts?

Just curious, for those of you who have received and installed your SharkWoofer, curious about your thoughts on them...

Which of the two woofer choices did you go with?

Go with the suggest Kenwood amp?

Thanks! I am awaiting mine and was just curious to see others thoughts, etc.

THANKS!

Please let us know when you get yours and installed. I wanted to buy one, but wasn't sure of the amp selection, since I just purchased a 5- channel amp that may not fit in the designated location.

I bought one of the Kenwood XR-5S's since it was the amp I saw in the SharkWoofer prototype at SF10 last October. I honestly don't know whether the amp mount points are specific for that series of Kenwoods, or whether there's a mount spacing convention used by multiple amp manufacturers. I haven't received my enclosure yet but will look forward to doing an install-for/by-Dummies post when it arrives.

Looking forward to having it replace all of this:

It is a VERY small foot print for the amp-mounting space on the SharkWoofer. I would highly encourage using the Kenwood amps. While it may be possible to get something else in there, the kit is designed for the Kenwoods, and the stand-offs are spaced so that the Kenwood will just drop in.

There are several different Kenwood amps available with the same footprint. If you are after a "better" quality amp for the primary speakers in the car, I would just recommend using the mono Kenwood amp in the SharkWoofer enclosure, and then find a different location for the primary amp.

I can provide CAD drawings and some assistance to check and see if other amps will work.

Thanks,
Hans

To the OP: I always go with the recommendations of knowledgeable people who have spent months working on the details as things such as the Sharkwoofer. Unless one is an absolute car audiophile who has spent more time than Hans investigating the best and most cost effective solutions, it is hard to imagine a stronger recommendation than his.

I bought the Kenwood amp Hans suggested and while it may not be up to "some" audiophile snobs standards, it is quite good IMHO, especially for the money. I got mine brand new on ebay for approx. $325 shipped. I have it hooked up, minus the SharkWoofer enclosure since mine has not arrived, and am very happy with the amp.

As an FYI, if your head unit only has pre-outs for front and rear, you will need to get two RCA female to male adapters (1 female to two male) in order to split the signal from the head unit pre-outs so one can be used as the input on the amp for the sub amp.

Still, anyone out there received theirs yet? Really anxious to get mine and curious of your impressions thus far...

Mine was sitting on the porch in perfect condition, Fedex Home delivery FTW.

Excellent packaging:

The 'late' version with cutouts for extra GTS spare tire-area harnesses:

Weight 23 lbs 13 oz, without amp:

Empty spare tire area in the GTS, I was a little nervous 'cause of my extra remote fuel pump relay:

But no need to worry, Hans hit the nail on the head, the sharkwoofer dropped right into place under the factory hold-down brackets perfectly, no need for trimming at all. Like it was born there......:

Dunno yet, I didn't install the amp yet- still waiting on some speaker wire to arrive today. Installation is tomorrow nights' project.
