Put the nut back on the pin and run it down until it covers up the threads and then give it a sharp whack or two with a 3-lb sledge. Continue, loosening the bolt as the pin goes into the shock bushing, then switch to a 3/8" socket extension against the end of the pin.
On my car, it worked best to drive it out toward the rear, don't know why (?).
