Leather dash removal 1980. What's under that leather?

I'm fixing up an 80 928 that I just added to my collection. The brown leather dash pulled away in two places. I can see I have a black dash under the brown leather. I assume its a stock back dash under there. Anyone know what to expect when I remove the leather? Did Porsche have to cut down the stock dash at all -- to make the leather fit or could I potentially have a "perfect" dash under my shrunken leather?

In addition, you may find other cosmetic flaws in the finish of the original dash underneath that have been repaired and smoothed over so they don't show through in the leather. I think the factory used their "seconds" from production to cover with leather.

Brad W pulled all the crap leather from his '82 dash and underneath the vinyl dash was almost brand new. Thought that was pretty cool.

So my leather cork dash is shot. I was going to use Rob and by a cork vinyl dash cover and do a self install. As they apparently did some trimming according to previous posts for the leather will I have issues replacing leather with vinyl?

It will be a vinyl dash that looks like a leather dash.

Car fund is getting pinched for wedding fund at the moment.
It will take me a little longer to stash the cash without drawing unwanted attention.
I did buy a dash mat a while ago. Maybe I can just claim some kind of magic trick and have a new dash "appear" under the cover.
