Default What is it, transmission vacuum line

While refurbishing my TT I decided to replace the vacuum tubing that goes over the transmission, on the old tube there are 2 sections that go over the tube to protect the tube where it goes through the hole in the top of the transmission and a clip on the side. The top one is simple enough as it’s a short length of tube split length wise, but when I tried to slide the other piece off the old tube it came apart with some kind of valve? inside.

Anyone know what this does and should I fit a new one.

On my car there is a similar looking T piece in the rear section of the vacuum line.

I believe it is for diagnostic purposes (so one can measure vacuum as close as possible to the transmission, with the transmission connected).

cheers
