They are on without spacers for now. I went to carquest and picked up some open ended lugnuts, but they turned out to be to big, needed 22 mm socket to tighten them and that wouldn't fit in the cup 4 lug holes.

I called a few other places and they directed me to Discount Tire, they said they would have something that would work. They had open ended lugs that were much smaller and longer lugs that require a key to put them on. They are designed to let the lug bolt punch through the end of the nut if the nut isn't long enough. They turned out to be perfect!

Do those lugs have a cone or ball end? Porsches take a ball end while a lot of other cars use a cone end. Those lugs look like cones.

I have a set of Porsche factory 17MM spacers which do NOT require replacing the studs, the spacers have their own lugs and you use the existing lugs on the 928 to bolt the spacer on..

Mark, it looks to me like when the 15mm spacers I sent arrive (probably tomorrow) and if they fit without rubbing, as we hope, you can get another set of these same nuts and put them on without punching the bolts through the tops for a nice chrome finish showing.

What happens if you use the cone shaped lugs instead of round?

Jerry, I actually didn't have to punch through the lugs. They were long enough.

Jerry, my wife informed me the sapcers just arrived. Thank you again! i will try them this evening and see how they fit.

Since you won't let me send you anything for shipping or your time, I am donating $20 to red cross for the Tsunami in your name.

Mark, that is interesting about the long nuts. Now, I wonder if the original nuts might be long enough with the new 15mm spacers I sent you. After all, these spacers that I modified for you are only a quarter of an inch thinner that the 21mm spacers you have taken out. I still hope that is enough to keep them from rubbing, but still put your wheels out where they look like they fill up the wheel wells.

As to the cone nuts versus the round bottom ones, I don't know what happens. I wouldn't want to drive the car much over about 120 mph with cones in it versus round, but I am not sure why.

Mark you should not mix the seating of the lugs to the wheels,
if you do you may damage the wheel collets permanently and destroy the wheels.
Jerry very nice of you to make parts for yet another enthusiast,
its good your here to assist others,
your very kind with your time and effort

Thanks Mrmerlin. I think that my meager contribution once in a while in something that I can make fairly easily when a member may find great difficulty in having it made for himself, actually pales in the face of the multitude of effort you and others on this list expend in helping members through a multitude of problems with your various forms of help. I think it is the least I can do. You and the others deserve just as much and more recognition for your help on this list. Thanks to you and the others.

It seems as though the spacers work. No rubbing at all.

The extra-long lug nuts in this thread are not right for our wheels. Porsche wheels use a spherical seat and those are conical. This mis-match could lead to cracking or deformation of the wheel.

I am looking at these wheels also, but in 17" with 225/45 front, 255/40 rear. They seem to be a great price......But then I'll probably want to paint up the calipers and put cross drilled rotors on. So much for a cheap upgrade.
