Loose cam gear

Loose cam gear
I had an engine knock awhile back which I traced with a stethoscope to be near the front of the left cam (drivers side). I finally got around to tearing it down today and found that the cam gear bolt was loose enough for me to remove by hand. I haven't taken the gear off yet to see if there's any damage but by the looks of it I'm going to need new cam gears anyway as the coating is wearing off. Anyone ever have an issue like this? The car was run maybe a minute total with the knock but I'm wondering if this could have damaged the cam shaft? Just a little history, the PO had a timing belt failure which she had fixed right before I bought the car so I'm guessing they forgot to tighten this bolt.

Loose Cam Gear
BTDT. My 80 Euro S had the right cam bolt loosen enough to spin, loose the belt and require a flat-bed ride home. Repair involved welding and re-machining the cam nose - after figuring out where the key-way was supposed to be... Hopefully you caught it in time. Good luck!

Well I guess it's either replace or repair.
CFM928,
Did the repair hold? (no broken cam?) My first choice would be to repair it but I'm worried about the heat damaging the properties of the cam.
Colin,
Let me do a search to see what's it's worth and then I'll PM you. Thanks for the offer.
