Default winshield wiper probem

I have an 82 Euro S that the windshield wipers stayed on all the time unless I pulled the plug in the cowl. I am trying to get it ready for inspection so I was messing around with the plug and the 6 connections in it. I found that when this green wire is connected the wipers stay on and with it pulled the wipers work except for setting 1(slow) and setting 4(delay wipe). I have left the green unhooked for now but wonder what the problem is. Any suggestions? Relay? Gunar

Not sure, need to work through it. Could be part of the park function. Is it green/blue harness side, then green after the wiper plug --leading into the wiper motor?

Motor can be disconnected and operated with a 12V wire to check each speed.

Here's diagram for now...

Its the parking circuit malfunctioning. It may just be the intermittent relay (this does the parking function too) or it could be the parlking switch in the motor that triggers the relay.

Removing the relay will get you all functions except parking & intermittent - the wipers will stop wherever they are when you turn them off (= trial & error) workable but not ideal. try a new relay - you can use a programmable VW version for better functionality and lower cost...

Search for VW wiper relay etc
