Anyone have LEDs in dash pod of a 78? My connections only have 12 pins and the instructions say to test with 13 and 14.
I used them in every position if my 78 cluster except the turn signal.
The ones I used were B8.5D LEDs from superbrightleds.com and the only issue was finding about the turn signal, and having to figure out polarities.
Thanks for the info. Do you have pics of the results? Did you also do the 3 pod illumination ones? They have the light guides on bottom of pod. How many pins on your connectors? How did you figure out polarity, and did you record any of that?
Those were for the smaller bulb locations, and replace the bulb and holder.
the larger ones I replaced with some generic led off of Wish or eBay, but I don't remember which of the ones I purchased ended up being used, at the moment.
Identifying polarities was a matter of installing them and seeing which lit up, and flipping them around as needed.
You can speed this if you use some jumper wires to check the LEDs polarities first, and mark them, then mark the traces once you test and know which side was positive on the traces.
I think I started off with about half of the LEDs turned around the correct direction just by looking at the schematic and finding what side of the circuit went directly to chassis ground or power, and from there following the traces from the connectors.
This is simplest for the status indicators like the coolant and oil warnings.
Here is the contrast between the green LED in the lower indicator, and the incandescent lamp in the turn signal location: LED versus incandescent indicator lamps
Here is the high beam indicator, with a blue LED behind it. Sorry for the focus, I didn't check it until I was away from the car.

Scott you can also try some testors model car paint. I used silver/chrome on my euro and it helped to brighten up the pod light tunnels quite a bit with the original incandescent style lamps. It's only a few bucks from hobby shops
Hey Allen, I'm not looking to change the warning lights but the 3 lights that shine up onto the gauge faces. If you have the pod offthere are three triangular light tunnels that direct light up through a paper element onto the face of the gauges.
Matt I errantly threw the light tunnels away when I removed them so I really need to figure out how to get these LEDs from garage9 to work.

Those are the larger ones that I'm not sure which LEDs I ended up using.
That said, if you're missing the light pipes, LEDs in the rear sockets won't do you much good, so one of the after market offerings are likely your best bet.
@scoper : have you taken a look at this thread? https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...n-run-4-a.html
I messed up and ordered a kit for my S4, which absolutely won't work, but I think that the early cars are potential candidates. The reviews look good and I don't think that they rely on the light tunnels very much. I haven't put them in my 944 yet so I can't really speak with any authority about it.
@marshallsmith : I didn't look upthread very much but if you're asking about a good source for LEDs, I like www.superbrightleds.com. They've got many styles to choose from.
This is what I'm working on. The directions aren't great - no pic of LEDs actually installed, the pins indicated for testing in 78 up aren't there in my 78. Get yourself a 12-volt battery to test with. Apparently a 9-volt won't work. I hope to test mine tmrw this way. Paul at jageng.com has been helpful since I called.
