Default Mobil 1 15W-50, Walmart availability...

Just a heads up, not sure if it is just local to me or a national trend. I went to Walmart last weekend to buy two 5-qt jugs of 15/50 for my next oil change and didn't see any on the shelf, a. Went back this weekend and it was still not there - looked sold out. So I started reading all the labels for each shelf location and there was no label for 15W-50. I asked one of the clerks and he said the oil sections were just relabeled which leads me to believe Walmart may stop carrying it.

I went across town to check another location with the same result. It's still readily available at local auto-parts stroes, but Walmart was historically the cheapest place by far to buy 15W-50.

So if you happen to see it on the shelves at your local store, you may want to pick it up while you can.

It seems that some locations carry it, others don't. A brand new Wally World opened up near me, and so far they carry it. The old one a bit further away has never carried it. Go figure.

Sweet paint on your 84 by the way, I've heard that's the fastest color!

I was told by a couple different WM clerks in the auto section that it is seasonal for them. One of the WM keeps it in stock year round since they go through a lot (I buy a lot from them)

It was gone from Portland,OR shelves a few weeks ago. Luckily I changed the fleet's oil about two months ago. My '85 leaks from everywhere, so I've been buying replacement quarts at a LAPS for $7+ quart.

I put 10-40 M1 in the auto, 15-50 in the manual. I drive the auto like an old fool most of the time.

It isn't at the local SoCal regular stores, but was on the shelf at two super stores I visited last week in Tennessee. Airlines won't let me carry motor oil in either checked or carry-on baggage, so it's still there. Covington and Ripley stores for folks in that area.

Now missing from my local stores that used to regularly carry it. Big loss.

You, sir, are a gearhead!

I once flew to Phoenix with a duffelbag full of tools and a Mercedes alternator myself. The fire extinguisher had to stay on the ground, however

It was two weeks after I posted this that I found out from my local one that they are not going to carry it anymore. If you find it, buy it.

The WM in our area does not carry M-1 15-50 anymore. Wait for it to go on sale at O'Reilly's for $ 4.99 qt and stock up. T

After some internet groping, seems like the 15w50 has been designated as a 'racing oil'. My local O'Reily's seems to believe it's worth $8.50 a quart. Outrageous to say the least....

I flipped off a few notes to see if I can get any corporate answers from Walmart and Mobil 1 on this. Will advise.

I'm guessing that this weight & size didn't move well in the category and thus was dropped from the assortment. Funny thing is that Walmart still had the qt sizes. I'd guess they'd do better dropping the qt size and keeping the jug size.

Walmart has stopped carrying it up here in Rohnert Park/Cotati. A store 2 miles down the road here carrying VW parts sells Redline 15W50 and 20W50 Synthetic oil for the same price as a quart of Mobil 1 in Kragen. I think I am converting to Redline oil with my next oil change in September.

What's your Kragen price? My local O'Reily's wants $8.50 a quart! This is a hastle...used to able to get at Walmart everyday for $24 for 5qts. With Reily's pricing the same amount is more than $42....grrr.

Concur it will now have to be a sale purchased item and hoarded.

$8.99 is the price I have seen in Marin County.
